Show More Mississippi State University’s Department of Curriculum, Instruction, & Special Education and Center for distance Education have collaborated to offer a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with either an Early Childhood or a Middle School concentration through distance learning. We would like to welcome you to take a glance into the program where all the courses are ONLINE. You can start the teacher education program in the fall or spring semester. If you have core classes to take, you can start those in the summer.
Benefits - You will be enrolled in the only online elementary education bachelors program in the state of MS. - You will enjoy the flexibility and convenience of online learning, and you can earn your degree from just about anywhere in the state or the world.
- The program allows you to complete your field experiences and student teaching internship at an elementary or middle school in or near your hometown. - You will take part in field experiences that let you learn in preK-8 classrooms prior to taking over your own classroom. - Many of your courses will be taught by full time MSU faculty. - Your courses, assignments, and requirements will parallel the on-campus program, which means you earn the same degree you would get on campus. - You will take part in innovative and engaging education courses that provide you with the most current and evidence-based practices. - Your framed diploma (with maroon mat, of course) will look awesome displayed on the wall in your future classroom! Entry RequirementsTeacher Education programs generally have the following admission requirements: - Minimum 2.75 GPA on 44 hours of coursework (including the 36-hour core) - Cumulative GPA of 2.5 - Grades of C or higher in English Composition I and II and in your college Algebra, Quantitative Reasoning, or other higher level math course - An SAT score of 860, OR and ACT composite score of 21 (with no subset below 18) OR the following Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators scores: Reading — 156, Writing — 162, and Math — 150 - Verification of 40 hours of work with children/youth - Two recommendations from educators - Completion of a Licensure Advisory Form and a Dispositions Advisory Form - Submission to a Criminal Background check Other Fees |

However, military meteorological training is not a requirement for the program. Complete the 17 course, 52 hour program fully online to earn the Certificate in Broadcast and Operational Meteorology. Apply this 17 course, 52 hour program toward the B.S. in Geosciences, Concentration in Broadcast and Operational Meteorology, also available online. Entry RequirementsTo be accepted into the freshmen class at Mississippi State University, students must satisfactorily complete the following College Preparatory Curriculum (CPC) with an appropriate core grade-point average: - English -- 4 units, all requiring substantial communication skills components. - Mathematics -- 3 units: Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry. (Algebra I taken in the 8th grade will be accepted for admission provided the course content is the same as the high school course.) - Natural Science -- 3 units, chosen from Biology, Advanced Biology, Chemistry, Advanced Chemistry, Physical Science, Physics, Advanced Physics, or another science course of comparable rigor. (Two science units must be laboratory based.) - Social Studies -- 3 units, including U.S. History, World History (substantial Geography component), Government (½ unit), and Economics (½ unit) or Geography (½ unit).
- Advanced Electives -- 2 units, chosen from Foreign Language, World Geography, 4th-year laboratory-based Science, and 4th-year Mathematics. One of the units must be Foreign Language or World Geography. (Foreign - Computer -- ½ unit: computer as a productivity tool, not as a keyboarding device. Pre-high School Units - Algebra I, or first year Foreign Language, or Mississippi Studies taken prior to high school will be accepted for admission provided the course content is the same as the high school course.

Show More The Master of Arts in Teaching in Community College Education is an interdisciplinary, distance education degree program designed to prepare professionals for teaching in a community college setting. The degree prepares educators for service in rural community colleges and requires a minimum of 18 hours in the student’s teaching field. The education courses introduce students to the philosophy and culture of the community college and prepare them to teach non-traditional and first-generation students. Sensitivity to diversity and adult learning theory is also included in the curriculum. The program is offered through the Center for Distance Education. Some content areas require taking courses on the Main Campus in Starkville, therefore it is not a fully online program.
