Show More Earn a Master’s in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on power systems, from the comfort of your office or home, viewing lectures at your convenience. Off-campus students enroll in the same classes as on-campus students. Both follow the same syllabus and schedule and, with few exceptions, complete the same course work. Michigan Tech offers program concentrations in energy systems, information systems, and solid-state electronics. Energy systems emphasize power systems, with renewable energy and power electronics as other major areas of interest. Examples include protection, operation, and control of power systems; theory and use of commercial packages for fault, power flow, and transient studies; and power-system components— including transformers, rotating machines, and circuit breakers. Information systems research is concerned with the transmission, measurement, processing, analysis, and interpretation of information-bearing signals. Areas include signal processing, image processing, computer communications, and wireless and digital communications. Solid-state electronics research spans electromagnetic wave interactions with materials, micro- and nanoscale electronic materials and devices, and the quantum behavior of solids. This research thrust explores applications coupling electromagnetic behavior, photonics, electronics, VLSI design, quantum electronic physics, and sensing devices that interact with the external world in complex, integrated microsystems. Show More There is a large and growing need for scientists and engineers with advanced training in the geospatial technologies. In particular, there is a recognized need in different disciplines to gather, analyze, and interpret geographically referenced spatial information and data. The Master of Science in Integrated Geospatial Technology provides an optimal combination of education and training in Geospatial Science and Technology to students who wish to join the geospatial workforce. The program can be completed on-campus or through online courses. Current Michigan Tech undergraduate students can earn a MS degree with just a single year of study beyond the BS through the Accelerated Master's Program. The Integrated Geospatial Technology MS program is designed for students from a variety of backgrounds to pursue careers in surveying, photogrammetry, remote sensing, Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR), terrestrial laser scanning industries, and for allied areas that require knowledge and understanding of the acquisition, processing, and analysis of spatially referenced data. These types of data help scientists from many different disciplines such as geology, volcanology, forestry, agriculture, social sciences, demography, history, and politics study diverse aspects of Earth and human phenomena. While many disciplines use such data and technologies as supplementary tools in their research, geospatial data acquisition and processing is an applied science and technology by itself. Entry RequirementsTo be considered for admission to the Graduate School as a degree-seeking student, the applicant must be - the recipient of a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited institution; - adequately prepared for advanced study in the chosen field of specialization, as demonstrated by the previous program of study and the scholastic record; and - recommended for admission by the head of the program or concentration - Admitted applicants typically have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale
