Show More The Master of Arts in Teaching Middle Level Education (MATM) is an alternate route program that is offered completely online. It prepares educators to teach all subjects in grades 4-6 and at least one subject area in grades 7-12. (Contact our staff to learn more about the Mississippi approved subject areas.) Through MATM, those who hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution have the opportunity to become a teacher after only two classes online. After completing the two licensure courses, candidates will be recommended for a three-year non-renewable license. Upon successful completion of two internship classes and two co-requisites, candidates will be recommended for a five-year renewable license allowing them to teach grades 4-12. Candidates will be upgraded to a class AA license once the Master’s degree is complete Entry RequirementsHold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally/nationally-accredited institution of higher learning. Students can also complete some coursework via distance and some coursework face-to-face on campus. Students earn initial licensure and then teach full time in a K-12 classroom while completing the degree. The Raspet Flight Research Laboratory, a unique university facility for graduate aeronautical teaching and research, is operated as an integral part of the department.
