Show More The BA in philosophy teaches students how to think well, which in turn lays the foundation for personal and professional success. Philosophy alumni are well-prepared for leadership roles in whatever path they take, whether it be in business, law, politics, medicine or education. The history of philosophy has had a major impact on contemporary thought, including our political ideals and systems and our understanding of morality. In addition, basic historical texts in philosophy are central to Western intellectual history. Studying philosophy is thus part of becoming culturally literate. Philosophy students learn how to structure arguments, write precisely and clearly and communicate their ideas in an orderly, persuasive, and unambiguous way. Many philosophical texts are quite difficult, and philosophy courses teach students how to read, comprehend, and summarize conceptually difficult material. In short, studying philosophy trains one to be a better, clearer thinker. Philosophy students also tend to score higher on the Verbal and Analytical writing portions of tests like the GRE, the LSAT and the GMAT. Entry Requirements
