Show More The MA English Language Teaching aims to provide English language teachers, and graduates with relevant teaching experience, with a deeper understanding of the field of English language teaching (ELT). In addition to specific topics such as pedagogic grammar, theories of second-language learning and the global spread of English, the programme provides an overview of the theoretical, philosophical and ethical principles that underpin educational research, and introduces you to the theory and practice of action research. There will be opportunities to examine the phenomenon of multilingualism in the context of individual language use and practices, as well as its impact and implications in education, contemporary society and various regions of the world. The programme will enable the development of the analytic and inquiry skills needed to conduct research into an aspect of ELT practices. The programme addresses the language systems in English – and the skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening – and theories of second-language acquisition theory and the impact these have had on ELT pedagogy. Language teaching methodology and the ways in which methodology is realised in ELT materials are considered. The programme explores the implications of the global spread of English, the rise of new ‘Englishes’ and the political and cultural dimensions of teaching English as an international language. The implications of local context for ELT in terms of curriculum, course design and testing are examined. Entry RequirementsMinimum 2:2 with honours Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) from the UK, taught in English.
