Show More Master of Arts in Art the Study of Fine & Graphic Arts at Northwestern State University is based on the philosophy that students must go beyond skill development in the manipulation of art media, into programs that offer a full understanding of the times in which they live and framed within a context of history. The art program prepares students to meet the demands of the professional art world through academic study as well as hands-on training and portfolio production. Fine & Graphic Arts is a program in the Mrs. H. D. Dear, Sr. and Alice Estelle Dear School of Creative and Performing Arts which has been named an Area of Excellence by the Louisiana State Board of Regents. Three degrees are offered, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art, a Bachelor Fine Arts in Graphic Communication and a Master of Art in Art. The Master of Art is a 33-hour graduate program with multiple areas of focus. The design, photography, and new media students may take as many as 27 credit hours of graduate work through distance-learning. The Master of Arts degree is a low residency online program. Most classes are available online; however the student is required to attend two three-week summer sessions or one semester at the beginning of their degree. The student will get to know the faculty and facilities which will foster a more personal online learning experience. The Graduate Thesis Exhibition also must be taken on campus. Usually this is accomplished during one of NSU's three-week summer sessions. Studio areas may also be approached by distance but it is requested that you contact the Fine & Graphic Arts department directly for details and requirements. For a complete list of available courses please see https://art.nsula.edu.
