The Bachelor of Nursing equips graduates with the key knowledge and skills necessary for the practice of nursing. Students who successfully complete 6 trimesters of full-time study (or part time equivalent) exit with a Bachelor of Nursing and eligibility to seek Registered Nurse status with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) as a professional nurse in Australia and by mutual recognition in New Zealand. The course aims to give graduates an appreciation of the value of life-long learning and a firm foundation for further study at a postgraduate level. In addition, students who hold an un-restricted Enrolled Nurse qualification registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) who enter at the beginning of the second year of the course and successfully complete two years of full-time study may receive a Bachelor of Nursing and eligibility for Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Students may commence study in Trimester 1 of the first year of the course. During the first two trimesters they will undertake Science for Nursing and Foundations of Nursing units, which will be offered via blended learning in the on-campus mode only. This study mode consists of fully on-campus face-to-face teaching of all theory and clinical skills and off-campus clinical placements of 120 hours for Trimester 1 and 120 hours for Trimester 2. The second and third years of the course will be offered both on and off campus via the Blended Learning mode*. Students may exit the course at the end of first year and seek Advanced Standing into the TAFE Diploma of Nursing and seek Endorsed Enrolled Nurse status with the NMBA. * Blended learning refers to a combination of mandatory on-campus intensive schools, structured online learning and clinical practice blocks. Entry RequirementsA candidate shall: 3 years (144 credit points) (a) (i) be qualified for admission (see Admission Rule Undergraduate Policy), and (ii) if admitted on the basis of an Australian school-leaving qualification, have achieved a pass in English and a science subject (other than Mathematics) in that school-leaving qualification; or 2 years (96 credit points) (b) hold an unrestricted Enrolled Nurse qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or equivalent under the Australian Quality Framework; or 2 years 3 months (108 credit points) (c) for international students hold a minimum 2 year FTE post-secondary equivalent to AQF Level 5 Diploma in Nursing and be registered, licensed or recognised in their own country as registered or a professional nurse in the last ten years; and (i) have an IELTS (Academic) overall score of at least 6.5 with no sub-band score less than 6.0 (or equivalent TOEFL score of at least 91 in the Internet-based Text with not less than 22 in the written component and 20 in Listening, Speaking and Reading); or (ii) successful completion of an advanced EAP program at the University of New England English Language Centre (equivalent to IELTS 6.5); or 1 year (48 credit points) (d) hold the University of New England AQF Level 6 Advanced Diploma in Nursing; or 3 years (144 credit points) (e) successfully undertake an interview conducted by a panel of UNE academic registered nurses.
