Online Nursing Degree :: Accredited Universities

There are three options within the undergraduate BSN Nursing Program at Eastern Michigan University:

B.S.N. for students who are NOT already Registered Nurses and wish to obtain a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. Major Code: NUR

B.S.N. Completion. - for students who are already Registered Nurses (generally with a diploma or Associates Degree) who wish to obtain a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. This is the Nursing Major - B.S.N. Completion. Major Code: NURC

B.S.N. Second Degree - for students who possess a Baccalaureate Degree in another discipline and wish to obtain a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing. This is the Nursing Major - B.S.N. Second Degree.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are considered for selection into the BSN Completion Program based on the following criteria:

- Hold a current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

- A 2.5 or better cumulative college G.P.A (4.0 scale)

- Successful completion of a college level course in English composition with a minimum course grade of 3.0 (4.0 scale) or higher prior to entry into the program.

- Successful completion of the TOEFL or MELAB scores to meet EMU requirements if English is a second language.

The next step in your nursing career begins with ENMU’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) completion program. Our 100 percent online program is designed for working RNs who are busy with family, life and work. Our program allows you to study on your time, usually with 6 hours of classes a semester. With that plan in mind, most RNs complete their BSN in less than three years.

Active R.N. licensure

Grades of "C" or higher in all nursing classes

Grades of "C" or higher in all prerequisite science courses

Application for admission submitted to ENMU

Application for admission submitted to the nursing program

Letter of intent sent to the nursing program

Three letters of recommendation sent to the nursing program, at least two must be from R.N.s
Current CPR and immunization records on file with the nursing program

Proof of current personal liability insurance on record with the nursing program before taking senior courses

The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree at Eastern New Mexico University fulfills the following needs:

Prepares nurses to assume the role of nursing instructor in Associate and Baccalaureate degree nursing programs in the state of New Mexico and beyond

Addresses the national and statewide nursing shortage by providing a larger pool of nursing instructors to enable the expansion and increase in graduate output of nursing schools in the region and throughout the U.S.

Provides nurses the opportunity to achieve a Master level nursing degree without leaving their community, while working full-time and through a quality, low-cost, public institution of higher learning.

Advancements in healthcare have ushered in a new wave of career opportunities. At the same time, more and more providers are seeking nurses with advanced education, specifically, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN). Recognizing this trend, the American Nurses Association has set a goal for 2020 that 80% of all nurses hold a BSN.* What's more, a recent report commissioned by the Institute of Medicine states that today's patients are older, sicker, and suffering from more chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, and cardiovascular disease. Therefore, it suggests, there is a greater need for highly-educated and skilled nurses capable of critical thinking and evidence-based practice.

Entry Requirements

The Nursing program requires applicants to have an associate degree or diploma in nursing from a state board of nursing approved registered nurse program. All applicants must hold a valid, unencumbered license to practice registered professional nursing in their state of residence, and have a 2.5 GPA or better in the past nursing program. Students who do not meet the 2.5 GPA requirement may apply for admission to the Nursing program on a provisional status. Upon successful completion of the first semester of the nursing curriculum, a student may apply for a change of status from provisional admission to the full admission.

Applicants must hold a current and active U.S. RN license or the international equivalent as verified by the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.

- IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
- Required minimum overall band score of 5.5.
- Scores older than two years at the time of your application to Excelsior will not be accepted.

- Excelsior College® Examinations English Composition exam (ENGx111) or UExcel® College Writing exam (ENGx110).

- Completion of at least 9 credit hours of academic work in courses delivered in English at an institution of higher education in the United States.
