Show More The PhD in nursing is offered on the Denton and Houston campuses. Because we understand that students have different needs and varying learning styles we offer two formats for the PhD program. The PhD is offered 100% online on the Denton Campus. The program has received the prestigious Quality Matters Program Implementation Plan award. Texas Woman's University College of Nursing is committed to promoting excellent online education. One method to achieve this goal is by implementing the Quality Matters standards for the 100% online PhD program on the Denton campus. We are systematically building and evaluating our courses based on these rigorous, research-supported standards. The Quality Matters standards assure that the online components of these courses promote learner engagement and provide students with all the tools and information they need to be successful learners. The goals of the PhD nursing program are to prepare nurse scholars who will: - Engage in scholarship that will add to the body of nursing knowledge. - Influence professional values and practice. - Investigate substantive questions of human health. - Assume leadership in nursing and health care. - Integrate knowledge from nursing and other disciplines to address problems of human health. - Teach and mentor other nurses and nurse scholars. Entry RequirementsAll applicants must meet the general requirements for admission to the Graduate School. In addition to these general requirements, the College of Nursing requires the following for admission to the doctoral program:
- A course in statistics - Scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test - Two letters of recommendation - A statement of research interest area and professional goals - A current license to practice professional nursing in the USA* - A curriculum vita or resume *Nursing credentials of international students will be assessed individually Admission to the nursing doctoral degree programs (DNP and PhD) may be awarded on an unconditional or provisional basis. The criteria for unconditional admission are as follows: 1. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 on prior graduate level course work 2. Scores on either the GRE (Graduate Record Examination) or MAT (Miller Analogies Test) Preferred scores for the GRE as follows:
Verbal Reasoning - 142 Preferred Scores on the MAT - 50 3. All candidates MUST submit either GRE or MAT scores as a part of the admission process Applicants who do not meet the unconditional criteria, but who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on prior graduate level course work may be considered for provisional admission on an individual basis. Show More The Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences offers an Online MS in Nutrition program at Texas Woman's University. This is a 100% online program that allows you the flexibility to complete the degree at your own pace (not to exceed 6 years) from anywhere without any disruption to your career. This program option is excluded from the Combined Master's/Dietetic Internship programs in the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences. The Online MS in Nutrition curriculum includes a study of food in its entirety, the individual food components, and the influence they have on the human body. The core courses provide a foundation on which to build a comprehensive education. The elective courses merge the science of nutrition with a broader view of wellness, community, and the environment, while still allowing the student the flexibility to follow his or her interests by offering a range of topics such as food safety, dietary supplements, metabolic diseases, and nutritional issues in health. Students are required to fulfill all requirements within six years after admission into the program. Entry RequirementsFor unconditional admission, applicants must present: 1. A college degree 2. Official transcripts that show evidence of prerequisite courses and at least a 3.25 GPA on a 4.0 scale for the last 60 credit hours. 3. Evidence of completing the Graduate Record Examination with a preferred minimum score of 143 (350 original) on the verbal portion and 141 (450 original) on the quantitative portion. 4. A one to two page résumé providing evidence of work and volunteer experience related to intended field of study. 5. TOEFL may be required of students whose native language is not English.
