Show More The Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) is designed to prepare educators to develop and deliver effective instructional opportunities for diverse students in various learning settings including public, private, higher education, and the workplace. Our Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) approved Gifted and Talented concentration is designed to equip teachers and administrators with a deeper understanding of the unique needs of gifted students, and how to develop appropriate curriculum, instruction, and assessment activities. The program requires the add-on Gifted Education Endorsement for those holding a Virginia teaching license.* Please note that a required 45-hour practicum takes place during the second spring semester of the program. Prospective students are encouraged to consult with their school administration regarding the practicum requirement and its fulfillment as a contracted school employee. Master's in Curriculum and Instruction—Gifted and Talented graduates will be able to: - Understand the history, definitions, identification methods, characteristics and needs of gifted learners. - Be able to modify, create and evaluate curriculum through differentiation and tiered assessments. - Identify and incorporate appropriate educational models and instructional strategies for use with gifted learners. - Have a working understanding of the development of gifted individuals over the lifespan from a cognitive, psychosocial, and physiological perspective. - Evaluate appropriate learning activities and assessments that include cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills and attributes.
