Show More The mission of the baccalaureate degree program in health informatics and Information management is to produce leaders in the discipline of Health Informatics and Information Management who can transform and evaluate data to improve patient outcomes, support the consumer, and advance healthcare delivery. The baccalaureate degree curriculum emphasizes the development of skills for the management of health-related information and the systems used to collect, store, retrieve, disseminate and communicate information for the support of enterprise operations and clinical and business decision making in healthcare or related organizations.The Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM) program requires twelve quarters of study on-campus or online plus one quarter off-campus at professional practice sites. Through online study, students will take courses each year during the fall, winter, spring and summer quarters. Students will use various forms of communication (e.g., online lectures, e-mail, electronic bulletin boards, digital drop box) to complete coursework and to communicate with each other and the faculty during the online program. The Health Informatics and Information Management (HIIM) program received the Louisiana State Board of Regents' Commendation of Excellence, the highest recognition awarded to an academic program by this group. The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) in cooperation with the Council on Accreditation of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Graduates of the program are eligible to apply to write the registration examination of the American Health Information Management Association. Graduates who pass this examiniation may use the credential, RHIA, Registered Health Information Administrator. This program leads to the Bachelor of Science Degree.
