Show More The Translational Microbiology M.S.H.S. program brings together the expertise in medical laboratory science and microbiology education in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) to offer unique preparation for a career in the microbiological sciences. The program will prepare graduates for careers in clinical microbiology laboratories; supporting infectious disease research efforts in universities, academic health centers, biotechnology firms and pharmaceutical companies; public policy and non-governmental organizations; and positions involving prevention, control and eradication of infectious diseases both globally and within the United States. The program will also provide eligibility for graduates to take a national microbiology certification examination. The curriculum has been designed so that students can complete the entire program in two academic years and offers the flexibility of allowing students to enroll either on a full-time or part-time status. Completion of the online courses in the first year will be followed by on-campus courses in the microbiological sciences and an applied internship.
