Show More The Master of Science in Nursing: Public Health degree program is designed for nurses interested in disease prevention and community health who are seeking a career where they are involved in the coordination, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of health programs and services. Public health professionals draw on knowledge and skills from a variety of disciplines to define, assess, and ultimately resolve public health problems. Professionals who graduate with an MSN in public health degree may hold positions of responsibility in a variety of settings, including; hospitals, health care facilities, county and state health departments, social service agencies, health policy and planning organizations, universities, nongovernmental organizations including international health organizations, county, state and federal governmental agencies, community-based health education and health promotion settings, and the corporate world. Students will study theories, concepts, and principles of public health and their application. The curriculum, developed around the nursing core and national public health curriculum standards, uses a multidisciplinary approach that emphasizes psychological, behavioral, and social factors influencing population-based health disparities; principles of epidemiology and biostatistics; environmental public health concepts; public health administration systems and processes; and economic factors. This program prepares students for an expanding range of professional opportunities and roles in public health and nursing. The Master of Science in Nursing: Public Health degree program culminates with a practicum and capstone project that students are able to design to best fit their area of specific interest. The increasing realisation of the importance of promoting higher levels of physical activity, coupled with the government’s agenda to reduce the proportion of sedentary and obese children and adults, requires a co-coordinated public health approach. To help meet these needs, Staffordshire University led the way by developing the MSc Physical Activity and Public Health which was the first academic programme of its kind in the UK to be offered by online distance learning. The award covers the main area of public health, such as principles that underpin practice and epidemiology. It focuses on research method and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative inquiry (often used as evidence in health improvement), physical activity specific modules relating to disease prevention and critiquing interventions, and strategies around working with and engaging communities. Finally, there is an independent research project of your choice, with a specialist focus on physical activity. Entry RequirementsApplicants will normally: possess an honours degree of class (2:1) or above (awarded by a United Kingdom university) or equivalent; have a minimum of one year working professional experience in community or government setting, or similar.
