Our online MPH programme is aimed at both graduates and non-graduates looking to further their careers in public health.

Both educational qualifications and work experience are taken into consideration when you apply to the University.

In general, you will be expected to have:

a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university or a degree from a recognised institution comparable and/or equivalent to a British honours degree

one year’s relevant working experience (for graduates in medicine)

two or more years’ relevant working experience (for all other graduates).

Applicants who do not directly meet the educational requirements will be evaluated on an individual basis, taking into account vocational and professional qualifications, and relevant working experience.

English Language Requirements

If English is not your native language, you will need to demonstrate English proficiency comparable to IELTS 6.5 overall (7 for Academic Reading/Writing), TEEP 6.5, TOEFL 570 paper-based or 88 internet-based (22 for reading/writing), GCSE C.

This programme offers an innovative approach to learning, meeting the training needs for health professionals interested in a career in public health or those seeking new skills in this area.

Contemporary public health practice requires practitioners to be adaptable and flexible, with a broad experience of a range of subject areas. Both the MPH and PGDip have three core compulsory units:
Evidence Based Practice
Fundamentals of Epidemiology
Biostatistics.
We hold an (optional) two day face-to-face residential induction at the university for first year students at the start of their studies.

Entry Requirements

You should have a minimum of an upper second class honours degree or the overseas equivalent.

Applications with a lower second class honours degree and a minimum of three years professional public health related experience may also be considered.

For applicants who are not from a `majority English speaking¿ country, you will be asked to provide evidence of your English language proficiency as part of your application. This should be in the form of a Secure English Language Test (SELT) which must meet or exceed our minimum requirements of:

The MPH is an internationally recognised qualification in public health. Public health practice draws on a wide range of academic disciplines and skills. The course is designed to expand the knowledge and skills required for practice in the fields of public and community health, providing broad based training in the core functions and disciplines of public health. The curriculum is based around the syllabus for the Part A examinations of the Faculty of Public Health and includes aspects of all 10 competencies for public health practice.

Entry Requirements

Applicants will normally: possess an honours degree of class (2:1) or above (awarded by a United Kingdom University) or equivalent; have a minimum of one year working professional experience in a public health role,community, government setting or similar. If you hold a professional qualification, Accreditation of Prior Achievement (APA) will be considered. If English is not your first language, you will need to demonstrate:

A minimum score of 7.0 on IELTS, as administered by the British Council in most countries, or

A minimum score of 600 in TOEFL or 250 in the computer based test, or

Cambridge Proficiency Grade B

Program Delivery Method: All courses in the program are delivered 100% online, through asynchronous instruction. New Admissions: The program is designed for part-time students and can be completed in eight semesters. This concentration prepares nurses to assess communities, identify high-risk populations, and work with those populations to develop culturally sensitive, acceptable and realistic community-based nursing services. Graduates are qualified to sit for the exam leading to Board Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as an Advanced Practice Clinical Specialist in Community Health Nursing. The program consists of 38 credit hours of coursework beyond the baccalaureate degree and 500 clock hours of clinical experience. All UNC Charlotte nursing programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and are approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
