You should have a good 4-year degree, equivalent to a UK honours degree, preferably at upper 2nd class level or above. Candidates holding the equivalent of a good 2nd class lower degree may also apply. Degree certificates and academic transcripts must be provided. Preferred degree disciplines are Law, Economics, Geology, Petroleum or Mining Engineering, Finance. Work experience in the energy/natural resources industry is an advantage, though it is not a strict requirement for admission to the LLM.

This course follows the MSc Health Improvement and Health Promotion programme that has run successfully since 2009.

At a time when strategies and policies for improving individual and population health are firmly on the agenda of governments globally, this course has been specifically designed to meet these challenges and demand from stakeholders and prospective students.

The importance of innovative approaches to health and social care has never been more critical with the widening inequalities gap, the continuing global financial crisis and climate change. The new public health approach has different characteristics from the old public health model and now includes prevention and promotion whilst giving recognition of the social determinants of health. This course will allow you to develop the skills required to meet existing and emerging challenges locally, nationally and internationally.

You will explore the principles of health promotion and public health and address current issues in improving health and the prevention of disease including epidemiology. You will examine the impact of health inequalities and explore global health and health psychology and the principles of behaviour change.

Typically you will have a degree/honours degree and a minimum of one year’s work experience in a health related industry or a professional qualification.

Healthcare Law and Ethics is concerned with how the law regulates certain aspects of healthcare practice, why it does so, and whether it does so effectively, and in accordance with ethical principles.

The programme has been devised to accommodate busy healthcare professionals. Unlike other programmes, this one is not open to law graduates, but has been designed specifically for those whose first degree is in a healthcare subject such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry, etc.

The programme aims to give you an understanding and appreciation of law and ethics as they apply to professional practice. It will help you understand legal and ethical concepts, terminology and sources of law.

It is offered on a part-time, modular basis with the emphasis being on Distance Learning. This flexibility allows you to study at a time and place of your own choosing and at a pace that is comfortable for you.

The modules will be delivered by a combination of student workbooks and on-line support via a software package called 'Blackboard VLE' (Virtual Learning Environment). The Adult-Gerontological Health Nurse Practitioner Program prepares nurses as expert providers of primary health care to young adults, adults, older adults and their families across health care settings. The primary focus of the program is to prepare the graduate to promote, maintain, supervise, and restore health, identify health risks, and assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic illnesses common in primary care. Clinical Practice Portfolio - Applicants to a master's program with a non-nursing bachelor's degree are required to submit a clinical practice portfolio to be evaluated for baccalaureate-level nursing competencies once they have been admitted to a program. The Clinical Practice Portfolio fee is $300. If the portfolio does not meet academic standards, the student cannot be matriculated.

The Master of Advanced Health Practice has been developed for individuals with a background in a health science discipline including nursing and allied health professions. The course is focused on professional development for current health practitioners, giving them a broad overview of the latest developments in various fields.

The course is practical and allows students to build on their existing experience. It enables students to pursue their interests through the choice of specialisations across a range of advanced health practice areas. Alternatively, the degree can be completed as a generic course of study without a specialisation by undertaking a selection of units in accordance with the award rules. The course content, activities, flexible delivery options and assessment methods reflect the developing needs of busy professionals.
