For busy adults who want to specialize in working with long-term care, Ottawa University offers a Bachelor of Arts in Health Care Management with a concentration in Long Term Care Administration that you can complete at your own pace, from the comfort of your home – or anywhere you have Internet access.

Entry Requirements

• A completed application for admission (you can apply online and at our campus locations).
• $50 application fee.
• Official transcripts from all previous colleges and universities attended. Transcripts should be mailed to the campus registrar.
o No previous college experience? Submit official documentation/self-certification of high school or GED completion instead.
• You can be admitted conditionally with unofficial copies of transcripts.
International High School Students
• A U.S.-Equivalent GPA of 2.5 or above (above-average grades in secondary school)
• Successful completion of a high school or secondary school diploma or certificate
International Transfer Students
• A U.S.-Equivalent GPA of 2.0 or above (passing grades in college)
• A course completion rate (Earned-to-Attempted Percentage) of 70 percent. (You need to have completed 70 percent of the courses you have started)
All International Students
• Meet any program specific admission criteria
• An affidavit of financial support showing the ability to pay for one full year
• Submit a maximum two-page, double-spaced essay describing your "Sense of Purpose at Ottawa University." Please organize your thoughts around one of the following three components using specific experiences from your life: Personal, Intellectual and Civic/Social
• Established English Proficiency. This can be established by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). TOEFL scores required:
Paper-based test: 550
Computer-based test: 213
Internet-based test: 79

The online Long-Term Care Administration major prepares students for administrative positions in long-term care settings. As the population of the United States ages, long-term care services will become increasingly important. This program prepares you with the skills necessary to have a positive impact on the quality of services available to meet this need.
This online program is accredited by the National Association of Long-Term Care Administrator Boards (NAB) and is the only NAB-accredited program available online. It is flexible enough to satisfy varying state licensing requirements. It includes a combination of courses in general management, health administration and long-term care administration, and a specialization in two prominent segments of the long-term care industry - nursing home administration and assisted-living administration. An internship is available to satisfy relevant state licensing board internship or administrator-in-training (AIT) requirements. This module aims to develop students’ ability to assess, treat, refer and discharge patients with long-term conditions. The module focuses on the improvement of students’ knowledge of clinical referral pathways and decision-making skills. This module will also cover the decision making process in relation to the prevention of inappropriate hospital attendance.

This course follows the MSc Health Improvement and Health Promotion programme that has run successfully since 2009.

At a time when strategies and policies for improving individual and population health are firmly on the agenda of governments globally, this course has been specifically designed to meet these challenges and demand from stakeholders and prospective students.

The importance of innovative approaches to health and social care has never been more critical with the widening inequalities gap, the continuing global financial crisis and climate change. The new public health approach has different characteristics from the old public health model and now includes prevention and promotion whilst giving recognition of the social determinants of health. This course will allow you to develop the skills required to meet existing and emerging challenges locally, nationally and internationally.

You will explore the principles of health promotion and public health and address current issues in improving health and the prevention of disease including epidemiology. You will examine the impact of health inequalities and explore global health and health psychology and the principles of behaviour change.
