The Master of Clinical Midwifery prepares experienced midwives for senior management, education and leadership roles in midwifery. Local students seeking eligibility status as a midwife (APHRA endorsement) undertake a specified program of course work units.

With links to major teaching hospitals and research centres across Victoria, including the Ritchie Centre at the Monash Medical Centre, which handles the state's most at-risk pregnancies, you will be exposed to research based learning environments that will allow you to customise your learning to meet your personal and professional development requirements.

You can choose either an all-coursework or coursework-and-thesis study option. If you choose all coursework, you can develop skills in a range of areas, including teaching, pharmacology, communications, research and the use of information and other technologies.

The thesis option includes a minor thesis to give you valuable research skills, advanced knowledge of an area of particular interest and the chance to qualify for a Master of Philosophy or Doctor of Philosophy research degree.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should hold either a Bachelor of Midwifery degree with a high level of achievement or a Graduate Diploma of Midwifery with current registration as a midwife. Applicants who hold a Certificate of Midwifery must undertake the units MID5006 and MID5007 to meet the minimum entry requirements.

This course assists health professionals to make rational evidence-based decisions in clinical practice and undertake small clinical research projects. Clinical epidemiology attempts to answer clinical questions relevant to the daily practice of medicine and other health sciences, and to improve patient care. It focuses on individuals or groups of patients in clinical settings. Students complete 7 core units, 3 electives and a minor research project. Core units cover biostatistics, epidemiology, research methods clinical trials, clinical epidemiology, clinical measurement, ethics, good research practice & practical research skills. Electives include chronic diseases: epidemiology and prevention, infectious diseases, meta analysis and systematic reviews, regression methods for epidemiology, advanced statistical methods for clinical research, and injury epidemiology and prevention. Students who successfully complete the research stream and achieve an overall average of HD may progress to a PhD or other Higher Degree by Research. Exit points: Students may be eligible to alternatively exit from the Masters with a graduate certificate or graduate diploma provided the requirements of the alternative exit have been met.

Applicants must have an undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline and relevant professional experience. The department will individually assess applications from students without a degree who have extensive professional experience.

This course is designed for emergency health practitioners interested in improving their clinical knowledge and aspiring to leadership positions in their field of practice.

You will have the opportunity to examine emergency health care from clinical and systems perspectives using local and international contexts and be able to enrol in a stream of study relevant to emergency health that advances your clinical knowledge.

In the last year of the course you will study clinical research in emergency health and have the option of undertaking a clinical project or studying clinical improvement, education or leadership to develop the professional attributes and skills required to practice at an advanced level.

You will learn from experienced practitioners, researchers and educators who have been delivering Ambulance Victoria's education programs for over 15 years, and who take their role as educators of the next generation of emergency health services leaders, managers and researchers seriously.

You'll gain the skills to evaluate and apply effective clinical and management practices, while opening the door to a career as an emergency health provider, educator or researcher.

If you need to exit the program early, you can graduate with a graduate certificate after one year or a graduate diploma after two years of successful study.

Entry Requirements

Applicants are required to have completed a bachelors degree in emergency health, or equivalent undergraduate studies leading to practice as a health professional. In addition, applicants wishing to undertake clinical practicum units will need to demonstrate current relevant health professional registration (or equivalent), and appropriate sponsored support (to be approved by the Course Coordinator). Interstate and international applicants with an equivalent qualification may apply for entry. Such applicants will be assessed on a case by case basis with reference to university credit/Recognition of Prior Learning guidelines. Applicants without an undergraduate degree but with extensive relevant experience may be considered on a case by case basis.

International applicants will need:
