Entry RequirementsApplicants must normally hold an approved Bachelor degree or equivalent qualification from an approved tertiary institution. Some specialisations have additional requirements, such as a degree in a relevant field and/or relevant employment experience. Masters degrees are 72-unit courses but credit of up to 36 units may be granted for an approved 4 year degree and relevant work experience. Students who have completed the Graduate Certificate or equivalent receive some credit when progressing to Education Masters program. It is designed for those who want to
acquire the knowledge and skills required to work effectively in the development industry and in developing country contexts; and Students who have work experience in a development studies related area and fulfil the academic entry requirements for progressive entry can complete the program in 36 units (two semesters or equivalent part time). Students who have completed at least 18 units of the Master of Arts (International Development) including DVST9023 Development Practice, with a GPA average of 6 are eligible to transfer to the Master of International Development and complete the remaining units of the program. Entry RequirementsBasic level entry, requiring the completion of 54 units of work, is available to applicants with a recognised bachelor degree (or equivalent qualification) with a specialisation in anthropology, development studies, economics, international relations, geography, gender studies, economics, politics or sociology. International applicants must additionally be able to demonstrate an IELTS Test score of 6 overall. Progressive level entry, requiring the completion of 36 units of work, is available to: applicants who have completed a recognised Bachelor degree (or equivalent qualification) with a specialisation in anthropology, development studies, economics, international relations, geography, gender studies, economics, politics or sociology, with a GPA of 5 or better, and a minimum one year full-time (or equivalent) work experience in a development studies related area; applicants who have completed the 18-unit Flinders University Graduate Certificate in International Development, or the Graduate Certificate in Gender Mainstreaming Policy and Analysis. Credit may be granted, on application, for relevant work already completed in other approved programs that satisfy the requirements of a Level 8 qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework. International applicants must additionally be able to demonstrate an IELTS Test score of 6.5 overall, with no sub-score lower than 6. This two year, 72 credit units course provides critical insights into the social, political and cultural processes and the institutional contexts that shape health and development issues, research, policy and practice. It aims to develop highly skilled specialists to better plan, develop, manage and evaluate and implement health initiatives and programs.
