Show More The programme will look at a selection of the period’s major works, such as The Faerie Queene, and Paradise Lost, and some of its major writers, such as Shakespeare and Donne, as well as non-canonical and non-literary works by lesser-known authors. Critical attention on this programme is focused on the heroic mode of the English Renaissance epic, and early modern literary (as well as philosophical and medical) representations of psychological disorders. The programme is underpinned by advanced research methods, the study of theoretically informed critical approaches, and the scholarly examination of manuscripts and early printed books. The University has a well-established record of research and teaching in English. Unusually for the sector, its provision at all levels has enabled students to study Medieval and Early Modern Literature drawing on specialist staff expertise and resources, particularly the holdings of the Special Collections of the Roderic Bowen Library: a unique resource which houses the Special Collections of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, including over 35,000 printed works, 8 medieval manuscripts, around 100 post medieval manuscripts, and 69 incunabula. Entry RequirementsIn line with the Admission Policy of the Faculty of Humanities, applicants will normally be expected to have achieved at least a 2:1 degree in English Literature or a cognate discipline (those with a 2:2 may be considered for entry to a Postgraduate Diploma in the first instance). Non-standard applicants will also be considered. Other Fees |

Show More The programme of study offers students a unique opportunity to explore a range of Heritage issues. It combines broadly based modules with modules from two distinct and specialised fields, in Cultural Heritageand in Museums and Archives. Students on the MRes will pick one module from each of these fields in addition to a compulsory Research Methods module. For Cultural Heritage there are two modules, which focus upon the notion of heritage as cultural practice and thus explore questions such as where does heritage come from, how is it made, what does it do, and how does it relate to the past and present, what is the relationship between heritage and the construction of identity, and what is the role of landscape, architecture and monuments in determining and embedding heritage. For Museums and Archives there are also two modules which explore many of the issues surrounding the management, conservation, practice and legislation surrounding the operation of museums and archives. Students are required to therefore choose 2 taught modules from the collection of modules on the programme, in addition to their Research Methods module. Students are therefore equipped with a broad understanding and appreciation of the field of Heritage in addition to a more concentrated and specialist knowledge on a particular strand. Running through all these modules is a focus upon the practice based, employability side of Heritage. This is then extended further into a discreet work placement module. Here students enter the work place, taking with them the knowledge and understanding from the course which they apply in a practical, hands-on setting. Entry RequirementsThe normal minimum requirement for admission is a Bachelor’s degree, with good II.1 honours, or equivalent. However as part of an inclusive approach to learning we encourage students from non traditional entry points or without recognised educational backgrounds but who have an equivalent and appropriate professional qualification or significant relevant professional experience to apply. Show More The MRes programme is taught within the School of Archaeology, History and Anthropology, and seeks to embed the student experience into a range of landscapes, both wild and managed, and environments within Wales where unique and particular landscapes are encountered. Many, but by no means all, employment opportunities are focused on the conservation, preservation, exploitation or manipulation of the natural resources. Industries based on tourism, cultural heritage and sustainability, to name a few, are prime destinations within Wales (and beyond) for graduates from this programme of study. Integral to this is an understanding of what archaeological evidence survives, and what methods and techniques can be used to explore and explain both past and present human relationships to these landscapes and environments. Along with the emphasis on ‘employability’, students engage in a rigorous academic training grounded in the discipline that is Archaeology which comes to a head in the Dissertation of between 25,000 and 30,000 words. Students are schooled in the concepts and practices required to undertake good academic research. Field and laboratory experiences underpinned with both legal and theoretical frameworks are core attributes of this scheme. Core staff teaching the scheme are actively engaged with a wide range of professional bodies, undertaking contract research, acting as advisors, or are recognised specialists in their field. Such staff operate at the crossing point of archaeology as an academic discipline and industry and community. The programme benefits considerably from the experience and expertise of UWLAS (University of Wales, Lampeter Archaeological Services) which provides a professional consultancy service across a range of areas including dendrochronology, pollen analysis, archaeozoology, quaternary stratigraphy, soils and sediments analysis.
