This course follows the MSc Health Improvement and Health Promotion programme that has run successfully since 2009.

At a time when strategies and policies for improving individual and population health are firmly on the agenda of governments globally, this course has been specifically designed to meet these challenges and demand from stakeholders and prospective students.

The importance of innovative approaches to health and social care has never been more critical with the widening inequalities gap, the continuing global financial crisis and climate change. The new public health approach has different characteristics from the old public health model and now includes prevention and promotion whilst giving recognition of the social determinants of health. This course will allow you to develop the skills required to meet existing and emerging challenges locally, nationally and internationally.

You will explore the principles of health promotion and public health and address current issues in improving health and the prevention of disease including epidemiology. You will examine the impact of health inequalities and explore global health and health psychology and the principles of behaviour change.

Entry Requirements

Typically you will have a degree/honours degree and a minimum of one year’s work experience in a health related industry or a professional qualification.

For international students IELTS 7 or its equivalent in TOEFL is required.

Health promotion professionals contribute to the health and wellbeing of individuals, communities and organisations. Health promotion professionals work across a wide variety of health settings such as community health organisations and wellness divisions of private enterprises.

CQUniversity’s Bachelor of Health Promotion is designed to provide you with a comprehensive set of knowledge and skills that reflect the National Health Promotion Competencies. Upon completion of the degree, you will have experience managing and evaluating health promotion projects, developing partnerships with key stakeholders, using a range of practice-appropriate information and technologies, as well as being able to communicate effectively using oral, written and interpersonal skills and electronic media.

The program teaches you the skills and knowledge that enable you to work competently with individuals and communities with a focus on helping them to increase control over and improve their health and wellbeing. There is 10 months of part-time, work integrated learning built into this program, providing valuable practical experience and ensuring you graduate work-ready. Preventing illness and promoting health are major aspects of the work of health agencies in all developed and developing countries. Deakin’s Master of Health Promotion is designed to enable students from varying backgrounds to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to develop appropriate and evidence-based health promotion programs. You will obtain a broad-based understanding of the determinants of health in populations and of the range of strategies that practitioners and organisations can implement to make a difference in creating healthier communities. The Master of Health Promotion provides you with the opportunity to extend your study of health promotion to undertake a major or minor project. Entry Requirements

Applicants for the Master of Health Promotion course should have an approved tertiary qualification, and be involved in a health related field for a minimum of two years (eg. health promotion, nursing, allied health, education, business) or engaged in relevant work experience activities for a minimum of two years. Applicants must also submit a written statement outlining reasons for undertaking the course. Applicants without a tertiary qualification who can demonstrate that they have gained sufficient knowledge and skills through work-related training may also be considered. A phone interview maybe undertaken for consideration into the course.
