The Sports and Health Sciences degree is a scientific study of human movement and human behavior relative to exercise, fitness, nutrition, health, and wellness. This degree is designed to prepare students to meet challenges in these dynamic and emerging fields of study. Students will engage in core issues and concepts in areas such as anatomy and physiology, nutrition, kinesiology, and exercise programming and testing. An emphasis is placed on biophysical functions, evidence based practice and principles applicable to human movement and performance in physical activity.

All students who enroll in the bachelor's degree program must enroll in COLL100 - Foundations of Online Learning as their first course.

The major emphases of the nurse practitioner tracks are to develop graduates with:

1. A base for continued inquiry and contributions to the art and science of nursing and the knowledge and skills to exert a leadership role in the formulation of healthcare policy,

2. Expertise in the provision of health care, and

3. Leadership ability in today’s healthcare environment.

Students complete courses in theory of advanced nursing practice where they develop skills in making independent clinical judgments as well as participate in experiences involving peer review, client advocacy, the development of collaborative, interdisciplinary relationships and role negotiation. Clinical instruction is carried out by nurse practitioners and/or physicians who model collaborative practice behaviors. This model of instruction allows the student to see the complementary roles of the advanced practice nurse and the physician and demonstrates the unique contributions of nursing to the care of clients.

The A.G.N.P. program prepares nurses to provide a range of healthcare services that promote wellness, prevent illness and manage health and illness needs of adults across the lifespan. The scope of practice of either the primary care or acute care N.P. is not setting specific, but is based on patient care needs. The particular expertise of the primary care A.G.N.P. emphasizes disease prevention, health promotion and the management of patients with acute and chronic multi-system health problems. The patient population of the acute care A.G.N.P. includes care of patients with complex acute, critical and chronic illness, disability and/or injury. The number of credits and clinical hours are determined by requirements for board certification in adult-gerontology. Graduates of the A.G.N.P. M.S.N. track complete a minimum of 600 supervised clinical practice hours and are eligible to sit for national certification in Primary Care or Acute Care through either the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program.

- Graduation from an N.L.N.A.C. or C.C.N.E.-accredited baccalaureate nursing program with a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

Dietetics is one of the most dynamic and versatile of the health-related professions. The 36-credit online Master of Family and Consumer Sciences with Dietetics specialization prepares Registered Dietitians to practice at an advanced level or to pursue doctoral study.

The MFCS - Dietetics program develops research skills, stimulates independent thought, and provides up-to-date knowledge in foods, nutrition, food service, and business management.

Students must meet the following criteria to be admitted to the online master’s program:

Student must hold the credential of Registered Dietician (RD) or be RD-eligible. This means the student has met both the academic and supervised practice requirements of the American Dietetic Association and is ready to sit for the national credentialing exam to become a Registered Dietician.

Student must meet the master’s program entrance requirements of the admitting university. Typically this requires a minimum of at least a 3.0 undergraduate grade point average (or 3.0 on the last 60 hours of coursework in the undergraduate degree).

English Communication Requirement: If English is not one of your primary languages you learned as a child (even if you are a US citizen), you must meet the English communication requirement in one of the following ways:
Students taking undergraduate courses should submit one of the following to the Office of Admissions: TOEFL score of 71 (iBT), 550 (PBT); IELTS score of 6.5 with no subscore below 5.5; SAT-Verbal score of 420 or ACT-English score of 16.

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Exercise Science program consists of 41 credit hours and is offered fully online. The B.A. in Exercise Science is designed for busy adult students who are interested in obtaining their degree and require the flexibility of attending class on their schedule.

The online exercise science degree focuses on kinesiology concepts in human movement, exercise and management. The Exercise Science degree prepares students for positions in coaching, fitness and wellness centers, health and wellness education, personal training and rehabilitation sciences.

The online exercise science degree also prepares students for postbaccalaureate study in areas such as aging, athletic training, biomechanics, chiropractics, exercise physiology, human growth, sports management, sport psychology and more.

The Master of Science in Exercise Science is designed to advance the skills and knowledge of current and future exercise science professionals. By utilizing a combination of theoretical inquiry and practical application, students will gain greater insight regarding exercise testing and prescription as they relate to working with diverse populations. Major topics discussed include exercise physiology, exercise testing, applied exercise prescription, biomechanics, nutrition and metabolism as well as psychology of sports and exercise. This program prepares students to become leaders within the exercise science industry.
