The Health Promotion concentration is designed to prepare professionals to design, implement, and evaluate health promotion programs. Preparation includes coursework in current health issues, health behavior, and program development risk appraisals and exercise prescription.

Health Promotion is a 33 semester hour program designed for students interested in a career in a health-related field. Upon completion of the degree, professionals may be employed in hospital wellness centers, clinical rehabilitation, in corporate health promotion community health settings, or school-based health centers. This program is delivered completely online.

Applicants must have completed bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

International students for whom English is a second language are required to demonstrate English proficiency.

Undergraduate applications will be considered for admission to the upcoming term start on a rolling basis. Eligibility for admission is based upon the following:

- Applicants need to have completed the equivalent of a US Secondary School

- Applicants will require the equivalent of a 2.5 on a 4.0 grading scale for admission consideration

- Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency as evidenced by:

TOEFL score of 71 and greater, IELTS score of 6.5 and greater, PTE score of 49 and greater, ELS score of 111 and greater, EF score of 107 and greater, and Michigan score of 85 and greater. The TOIEC examination is not accepted.

The online BAS in health sciences degree at Arizona State University is ideal for people in health-related fields who have an associate of applied science (AAS) degree and want to earn their four-year degree.
The health sciences field is the single largest industry in the country, accounting for more than 14 million jobs. Many of the fastest growing occupations today are in health sciences. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, health sciences occupations are expected to generate as many as 3 million new jobs by 2016. In addition, the field of health education is expected to grow by 20 percent, or roughly 25,000 new jobs, in the next decade.

This is a cross-disciplinary program designed to equip students with knowledge and skills that will position them for a range of career opportunities in health-related fields.

Our graduates will be well prepared for success as managers in their original fields of expertise, such as Medical Radiology, Nuclear Medicine Technology and Histology Technology. Other career opportunities, depending upon the focus of original AAS study, include positions as health educators, elder services program coordinators, long-term care health and wellness coordinators, and community nutrition aides. Our students will also be uniquely qualified for graduate study in applied programs such as gerontology, family sciences and health education.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must successfully complete ASU competency requirements. Admission may be granted with one deficiency in no more than two competency areas. Deficiencies cannot be in both math and laboratory science. Students must earn a minimum 2.0 in any subject area. Most competencies may also be met by test scores or college courses.

English - 4 years (composition/literature based)
Math - 4 years - Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and one course requiring Algebra II as a prerequisite.
Laboratory Science - 3 years total (1 year each from any of the following areas are accepted: Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Integrated Sciences, and Physics)

Foreign Language - 2 years (same language)

Individual Review

All students who don’t meet the above standards will be evaluated through a process called Individual Review. Through this process Undergraduate Admissions will review all available information about a student’s application, carefully considering all aspects of a student’s academic background and accomplishments. Submission of an ACT or SAT test score is highly recommended. In some cases, additional information might be requested.
