Show More The MSc in Mental Health and Well-being of Children, Young People and Families is a new fully online programme, offering study in psychological aspects attached to psychosocial well-being and mental health promotion during development. The programme offers the core elements of theory and research in mental health and well-being promotion in a developmental context. It fosters a critical and reflective approach to the application of these elements in a broad variety of settings including education, health, international development, and public health. The programme will enable graduates and professionals from different professional backgrounds (such as clinical, educational, social services, public health, policy making, non-governmental organizations and international development) to: - Develop their knowledge through engagement with research and scholarship in psychological theory and practice - Develop skills in the critical appraisal of psychological practice in the field of child, adolescent and family mental health and well-being promotion - Develop and consolidate an extended knowledge base of theoretical and applied approaches to mental health and well-being for children and young people Core courses will be both conceptual and applied. At the conceptual level, the programme will review different theories of human well-being across the lifespan including psychological factors involved in the complex structure of healthy child development. At the applied level it will include a critical appraisal of the current evidence base and psychological practice, a review of the World Health Organization guidelines and the most recent approaches of mental health promotion. Distinctive features of this degree include: - The critical integration of clinical and professional practice with current theoretical and empirical developments in the evidence base for, and delivery of, mental health programmes for children and young people - Flexibility of delivery - Opportunities for knowledge exchange between range of graduates and practitioners from multi-professional backgrounds - Many opportunities for the synthesis of theory, evidence and practice The degree may be taken as Cert / Dip or MSc in Mental Health and Well-being of Children, Young People and Families. Courses will also be offered separately as Continuing Professional Development modules for graduate students and practitioners. In contrast with the other programmes offered by Clinical Psychology, it is to be delivered fully online. The team behind this proposal have solid experience of online education, and includes two experienced e-learning developers. The online format is ideal for reaching a broad range of international professionals seeking advanced training in psychological aspects related to psychosocial well-being during development. Entry RequirementsApplicants for the programme will be considered on an individual basis. Guidelines for likely acceptance onto the course are possession of an undergraduate degree or equivalent (reaching SCQF level 9). Where an applicant’s undergraduate degree does not meet the level stated above or is not obviously related to subjects relevant to children and young people’s development and/or mental health, they may be admitted at the discretion of the programme director so long as they have current or recent work experience providing clinical/clinically relevant experience of children and young people in mental health settings, including statutory and voluntary organisations. Suitability will be established through: - the completion of a personal statement submitted via the application form - two references which address how the applicant meets the academic and/or relevant experience requirements - an online interview, designed to determine suitability and relevant experience (where appropriate)
