This course has been designed to provide you with a broad education in Clinical Pharmacy in tandem with opportunities to focus your studies on hospital, community or primary care sector priorities. It will equip you with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance your career.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have an undergraduate degree in pharmacy from a UK university or overseas equivalent, at a minimum of honours level and one years post-registration experience OR an integrated masters degree in pharmacy (MPharm) and professional registration OR in consultation with the course leader.

English Language Requirements

All international students, for whom English is not their first language, must provide evidence of linguistic ability by gaining either IELTS 7 (Minimum of 5.5 in any one element) or its equivalent in TOEFL prior to receiving an unconditional offer of a place on the course.

The primary objective of the Master of Science in Health Sciences in the clinical management and leadership field is to develop management and leadership knowledge and skills for the practicing professional in health disciplines. Graduates of the program have demonstrated the capacity and competence to serve in mid to upper-level leadership positions.

All course work is delivered through state-of-the-art distance education that meets the needs of working health care professionals. The faculty for this dynamic program is drawn from a diverse set of health care professions, giving the graduate access to a wide range of worldviews, experiences and health care perspectives. Course work includes an array of business functions in clinical practice management, including human resources, marketing, finance and economics. This course provides an opportunity for registered pharmacists to develop and enhance their skills and qualifications in clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice research. Being a flexible education program delivered online, the course is particularly suited to pharmacists from rural and remote areas, with limited access to formal educational programs.

The course will equip registered pharmacists with the fundamental knowledge and skills to enhance career opportunities as a clinical or consultant (accredited medication review) pharmacist, and perform expanded professional services that are being developed in Australia and overseas.

Completion of the Master of Clinical Pharmacy will also prepare candidates for enrolment in a Research Higher Degree program.

Entry Requirements

Students are expected to have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Tasmania or another university or tertiary institution that is deemed equivalent, and will be registered pharmacists. Where an undergraduate degree has been recently obtained (within past 3 years), a minimum average grade of 60% obtained in the final 2 years of study would be required for entry to the Master of Clinical Pharmacy program. Appropriate post-graduation work experience of at least 2 years will also be normally considered as a requirement for acceptance into this program. Proof of a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree and registration as a pharmacist is required with applications.

The course is designed to enable students to establish skills in evidence-based practice, quality use of medicine, practice-based research, and provision of clinical pharmacy services at a high level. Areas of study include biostatistics, epidemiology, theory and practice of evidence-based medicine, interpretation of clinical data and pharmacotherapy and clinical research. Each student will complete a four-week speciality rotation with an experienced clinical preceptor and will carry out a small practice-based research project. Students must arrange the necessary time release from their employer to complete the placement and research project. The program is conducted online and via distance education.

Entry Requirements

A bachelor degree or equivalent qualification in pharmacy.

Registered as a pharmacist.

Working in a clinical setting in an Australian or New Zealand Hospital.

English language requirements.

Applicants with a 4-year undergraduate degree will be eligible to apply at the end of their pre-registration year. Applicants should be practising in a clinical setting.

Applicants with a 3-year undergraduate degree will be eligible to apply following their pre-registration year and a further period of clinical experience. Applicants should be practising in a clinical setting.

International students residing outside Australia are not eligible to enrol in this course. International students located in Australia must be registered as a pharmacist in Australia, be employed in an Australian hospital clinical setting, and have the appropriate visa to allow part-time study.
