Entry Requirements

Students seeking admission to the Bachelor of Science in Health Science program must be a graduate of an associate’s degree level, health sciences program (i.e., medical assisting, respiratory therapy, nurse education, surgical technology, etc.) from an accredited institution or have completed sufficient college credit to attain the equivalent of an associate’s degree in the discipline of health science. Prospective students should also have completed an appropriate number of credit hours of general education (e.g., 15 semester credit hours and 22.5 quarter credit hours).

Applicants for admission must have graduated from an accredited high school, private secondary school, or have completed the equivalent (GED).

International Applicants

Applicants to an undergraduate associate’s or bachelor’s program must provide an official or attested transcript of completed high school work translated into English and certified to be at least equivalent to the credential required by the college in its admissions criteria. This policy also applies to any student with previous education completed outside of the United States.

2.Applicants must provide evidence of English proficiency in one of the following ways: (i) minimum TOEFL score of 550 or 213 computer based or 79 IBT based or (ii) 6.0 on IELTS.

This combined degree course provides students with the opportunity to major in a commerce program in conjunction with legal studies with a view to satisfying the academic requirements for admission into the legal profession and, depending on the specialisation completed in the commerce program, possibly the accounting profession.

The Law course aims to provide knowledge of the legal system and legal principles, and to cultivate a capacity for legal research, analysis and communication. The course also deals with theoretical perspectives on the law and encourages an appreciation of legal issues of special significance to the Northern Territory, including Aboriginal legal issues.

The Commerce course caters for individuals working in or intending to work in commerce or government in fields such as economics, accounting, management, entrepreneurship, business administration, hospitality or marketing. It is of particular relevance to Australian or international students seeking membership of Australian professional bodies in these or related fields. The program provides students with the career and professional skills needed in a rapidly changing business environment. It allows for flexibility of study and prepares students for careers in a variety of business fields. In addition, communication, presentation and problem-solving skills are emphasised.

Graduates of this combined degree are awarded both the Bachelor of Commerce and the Bachelor of Laws.

The dual degree allows you to tailor your degree to suit your individual needs and study goals.

The accounting portion of this program includes courses which cover content such as audit methodology and planning, tools and techniques financial managers use to maximise shareholder wealth, the application of accounting theory, and accounting standards and business law relevant to the financial records of Australian companies.

The financial planning component of this program provides you with not only the theoretical knowledge of the finance industry within Australia, but also the practical skills and tools to construct a thorough financial plan. You will study the role of a financial planner and the process of financial planning, the Australian legal and regulatory framework in which financial planners operate and theories of investment, portfolio management and risk management. You will develop a clear understanding of the Australian taxation system, and the ability to identify and analyse the effects of taxation on particular financial products and strategies. This Master of Business Administration in Forensic Acccounting program is ideal for students who are interested in examining and determining whether an accounting or financial activity is legal in support of corporate compliance officers, lawyers and law enforcement personnel. This work may focus on fraud prevention for risk mitigation, fraud detection or both. The JIU MBA specialization in Forensic Accounting is an advanced accounting degree designed for students who have a prior accounting degree (undergraduate or masters level) and wish to combine that knowledge with specialized knowledge in auditing and forensic accounting – the Forensic Accountant’s role is to detect abnormalities within accounting systems and as such first need to know what normal accounting practices are. JIU undergraduate accounting majors who have completed their accounting course work and wish to take these courses as their upper level electives are also welcome.
