The Master of Professional Accounting provides you with the skills and knowledge required to be successful when working in the finance or accounting fields. This program focuses on teaching knowledge and skills in the areas of accounting, finance, computer software applications, economics, statistics, and business law. Upon completion of this program you will have the ability to undertake accounting analysis, research and provide advice.

The Master of Professional Accounting is aimed at those who have completed an undergraduate degree. It is suitable if you are interested in a career change and employment in accounting and financial management orientated careers. This two year full-time or three year part-time program is offered both on-campus and by distance education. You will study 12 core courses in accounting in areas such as financial accounting, auditing, management accounting and ethical practice, Australian taxation law and economics for business.

You may exit this program after a specific number of courses are completed with a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Professional Accounting qualifications.

To gain entry to this program you are required to have either:

• an undergraduate degree in any discipline from an Australian university

• a qualification from an overseas institution or organisation assessed as being at least equivalent to the above by the professional bodies that accredit this program of study.

Deakin's Master of Professional Accounting aims to provide graduates from an accounting or non-accounting background with the opportunity to undertake studies leading toward associate membership of CPA Australia or entry into the Institute of Chartered Accountants to undertake the CA program.

As part of the course you will study areas such as corporate and management accounting, commercial law, corporate auditing, corporations law, accounting theory, information systems for business, economics and finance.

Graduating with a Master of Professional Accounting from Deakin will open the door to many employment opportunities and a huge variety of business careers. Recently the accounting profession has seen a fundamental shift from a role that was seen as providing financial information and number crunching towards a wide-ranging advisory role. Today's accountants are now seen as providers of business management information.

Successful completion of the Graduate Certificate of Accounting or the Graduate Diploma of Accounting allows articulation into the Master of Professional Accounting.

Completion of a tertiary program equivalent to not less than 3 years of full-time study at a university or other approved educational institution.
