Show More If you currently possess or are eligible for a Professional Level Five Certificate in Early Childhood Education and are interested in pursuing graduate preparation beyond a Master’s degree, this is the program for you! The Ed.S. in Early Childhood Education is designed to meet the current demands of teachers in grades K-12 and is offered fully online. You will complete content specific requirements in reading education. This 33 semester hour program is unique in that it will provide you with opportunities to: - Collaborate with others across disciplines. - Explore teacher leadership opportunities and develop your leadership skills. - Apply and extend your content knowledge and pedagogical skills through the examination of curriculum and instruction issues and research. - Continue to develop your technology skills. - Develop skills using technology to impact and assess. - Conduct action research related to reading education. Entry Requirements1. Complete requirements for a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. 2. Possess or be eligible for a Professional Level Five Certificate in Reading Education. Candidates who have completed all eligibility requirements for the Professional Level Five Certificate have until the end of the first semester to obtain the certificate. 3. Present a 3.25 or higher GPA on all graduate work attempted. 4. Present current official report from the verbal, quantitative and analytical writing sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) showing competitive scores. Applicants with a Georgia Southern University graduate degree showing a GPA of 3.5 or higher within the previous seven (7) years may exempt the GRE test requirement. 5. Submit a personal statement of purpose, not to exceed 200 words, that identifies the applicant’s reasons for pursuing graduate study and how admission into the program relates to the applicant’s professional aspirations.
6. Submit a completed ‘Disclosure and Affirmation Form’ that addresses misconduct disclosure, criminal background check, the Code of Ethics for Educators, and tort liability insurance. Applicants may be approved for provisional admission based on the quality of the admission material presented. Provisional students must earn grades of ‘B’ or higher in their first nine (9) hours of course work after admission and meet any other stipulations outlined by the department to be converted to regular status. Newly revised in 2013, the coursework brings together current research and policy to prepare teachers to teach children from Birth to Grade 6. Coursework addresses the key components of literacy and content areas instruction, including literacy development, children's literature, science, mathematics, social studies, writing instruction, literacy engagement, strategic literacy instruction, assessment, data-based decision making, critical literacy, family partnerships, and the Common Core Standards. Show More The degree in Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) is designed to meet the needs of individuals who work (or plan to work) in some kind of an instructional capacity. The degree does not lead to a South Dakota teaching certificate nor does it lead to an endorsement on the South Dakota teaching certificate. Students are able to choose from either a program in which only coursework is required or a program in which they must complete a research project. If a student elects to take only coursework (Plan C), the student must complete a minimum of 35 credit hours in order to graduate. If the research option is chosen, the student must complete a minimum of 32 credit hours including 788 Research Problems. The C&I degree is structured to allow a great deal of flexibility. It is expected that students will take a mixture of required courses and elective credits, depending on their areas of interest. These courses may be completed with no intention of seeking a degree, or may be used as part of the basis for completing a C&I degree. Enrolment in Deakin’s Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (E330) is available for the first time to Year 12 applicants and via the http://www.deakin.edu.au/future-students/doorstep/index.php delivery mode. The course has been adapted to meet new national and international standards in early childhood education, and includes a primary teaching component, allowing students to teach children up to age 8 years. The course meets the requirements of the relevant accrediting authorities for working in early childhood and primary school settings.
