Entry Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, a nationally accredited institution approved and documented by the faculty and dean of the College of Health Sciences, or an appropriately certified foreign institution.

• A 2.7 grade point average for the bachelor’s degree used as the basis of admission, or a grade point average of at least 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) for the last 60 hours of coursework (including graduate work)

• A minimum score of 550 on the written TOEFL® or 79 on the TOEFL® Internet (iBT) is also required for all applicants whose native language is not English or who have not graduated from an institution at which English is the language of instruction

• If the basis of admission is an earned bachelor’s degree with a 2.7 grade point average, an official transcript from the degree granting institution

• If the basis of admission is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) for the last 60 hours of coursework, official transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended during the 60 hours of study

• Prior to matriculation applicants will be required to submit a personal/ professional goal statement (the statement is used for advisement purposes, and does not become part of the academic file)

Curriculum vitae: Submit a curriculum vitae including relevant education and any employment history, certifications and licensures, teaching and research experience, publications, presentations, awards, honors, affiliates, professional associations, experience and background in health, public health or health care.

Essay: In a total of two pages or less, please respond to the following two questions:

- Describe how your personal qualities, accomplishments, academic background and professional experience will contribute to your success in the Creighton MPH program.

- Explain how successful completion of this program will assist you in achieving your professional goals.

Recommendation Forms: Three recommendation forms are required, to be completed and submitted by persons other than family members who are capable of assessing an applicant's performance in an academic or work setting.

Transcripts: Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Transcripts must be sent directly from the issuing institution.

Graduate Record Examination (GRE): All applicants who do not hold a post-baccalaureate degree must submit an official score report on the Graduate Record Examination or show evidence of success in graduate-level course work through successful completion of at least two Masters of Public Health core graduate-level courses. While the GRE is generally the preferred exam for admission to the program, scores from other post-baccalaureate entrance exams will be accepted, including the MCAT, GMAT, LSAT and MAT.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): All international applicants from countries in which English is not the primary language must demonstrate proficiency in the English language by submitting a minimum TOEFL score of 100 iBT (213 CBT/550 PBT) International applicants who received their baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited institution in the U.S., United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Africa (English-speaking only) are not required to submit a TOEFL score report.

The Master in Public Health program is designed to help graduates meet the challenges in the expansion of health issues in the nation as well as globally. From environmental health concerns, emerging and re-emerging diseases, socio-political factors affecting both our nation‛s health and health globally, to the evolving state of our current health care system, the Master of Public Health degree prepares students to take a leadership role or become subject area experts in the field of public health.

For those working directly in the health field, professionals with a Master in Public Health degree may hold positions of responsibility in a variety of settings including health care facilities, county and state health departments, social service agencies, health policy and planning organizations, universities, non-governmental organizations, international health organizations, community-based health education organizations, health promotion settings, and health care companies.
