The Master of Science in Health Science (MSHS) in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) provides high quality education for health professionals through the use of a creative and innovative online format. The curriculum in the program includes a combination of courses focused on leadership, research, teaching and assessment strategies, ethics and health policy. Additionally, the program incorporates course work designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of the technologies and techniques upon which modern medical laboratory diagnostics are based, and insights on new trends and emerging technologies in laboratory science. Thus, the MSHS in MLS will equip certified laboratory scientists with the knowledge and skills to assume leadership positions in the laboratory, as managers, educators, clinicians or researchers.

Entry Requirements

This non-clinical program is open only to students who are currently MLT or MLS/MT/CLS certified, specialist ceritfied (e.g. SBB), or subject technologist certification.

1. Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, or a related science (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology) from a regionally accredited institution.

2. Overall undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher

3. National certification (Technologist, Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist). Student with other certifications should contact the program office for eligibility criteria.

Keiser University’s Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Science is a degree completion program for Medical Laboratory Technicians. The program prepares students for work as Medical Laboratory Scientists. Graduates will possess the skills to perform laboratory tests in accordance with standardized laboratory practices in clinical chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, clinical microbiology, immunohematology, molecular diagnostics, and serology/immunology.

Graduates will be eligible to sit for the American Medical Technologists (AMT) Medical Technologist credentialing examination and the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB) Medical Technologist credentialing examination.

The following goals are designed to meet Keiser University’s mission and its goals:

- To develop the student’s ability to perform standardized laboratory tests

- To develop the student’s ability to think critically and communicate effectively

- To prepare students for employment in clinical laboratories, reference laboratories and physician’s offices as Medical Laboratory Scientists

To be considered for admission to Keiser University all applicants must supply:

Verification of high school graduation ( transcript, diploma, etc. ) or

Verification of GED completion ( GED scores or GED diploma ) or

Proof of graduation from a foreign institution comparable to a United States secondary school.

If an applicant’s primary language is not English, the applicant must present a TOEFL® score of 500 or higher on a paper-based examination, a score of 173 on a computer-based examination, an internet-based score ( iBT ) of 61, or an IELTS™ score of 6.0 or higher.

The Medical Laboratory Science upward mobility bachelor’s degree equips you to continue pursuing your interests with an added level of expertise. Courses provide a strong scientific background in Hematology, Hemostasis, Chemistry, Molecular Diagnostics, Immunohematology, Immunology and specialized testing. Clinical practice is another key component of the program. Upon graduation, you will be eligible to take the certification examination as a medical laboratory scientist from the Board of Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Due to the advanced nature of the program, you must have documentation of at least two years work experience in a clinical laboratory, completion of an accredited certificate program in medical laboratory science and successful completion of SDSU general education requirements or an academic plan of completion approved by the MLS program director.

- Provide the health care community with quality individuals who are competent to conduct laboratory procedures in large medical facilities and small rural laboratories and who demonstrate positive professional attitudes, ethics and practices.

The Master of Arts degree in Biomedical Laboratory Science is administered by the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program. The program is designed to enhance the student’s knowledge base and broaden their perspectives across the profession.

Entry Requirements

Regular admission to the Master of Arts degree in Biomedical Laboratory Science requires completion of a bachelor of science degree, with a minimum grade-point average of 3.0. Applicants must submit official transcripts, three letters of recommendation, a letter of intent or purpose statement, a brief resume, and the General GRE (Graduate Record Exam) score.

To enrol in the MSc in MLSc you must be a NZ registered Medical Laboratory Scientist, qualified for an Annual Practising Certificate (APC), and also have:

completed the degree of Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLSc) with a B grade point average or better; or

completed the Massey University Diploma in Medical Laboratory Science with a B grade point average or better; or

completed any other Science degree from a New Zealand university with a B grade point average or better; or

completed an NZIMLSc Fellowship and the papers required for the Massey Postgraduate Certificate in Science with a B grade point average or better as outlined in Note 2 below; or

been admitted with equivalent status as entitled to proceed to the specified degree.
