Show More Materials Science and technology is a challenging inter disciplinary course offering considerable variety and career opportunities across a wide range of industry sectors. The course has been designed to meet the requirements of industry and allow progression towards professional chartered status. The course content encompasses all aspects of materials; their selection, manufacture, testing, assembly and environmental impact both during production and at the end of life. Through a careful balance of lectures, practicals and case studies, students develop a thorough understanding of the properties and capabilities of metals, ceramics, polymers and composites, which can then be applied to a wide range of industrial contexts including aerospace, automotive, power generation and distribution, IT and manufacturing amongst many others. Project work forms an important part of this course, working individually and in groups, it prepares students for the workplace by developing crucial transferable skills. The 60 credit MSc project is of great significance, equivalent to one third of the total course marks. Its main objective is to provide training in techniques that are essential for research and development work and problem solving in industry. Entry RequirementsFull time candidates will usually require a good first degree (BEng or BSc) or equivalent in a science or engineering subject to register for an MSc course. Part time students working in industry with relevant experience may be accepted with an HND or equivalent and would usually begin at certificate level and then, with successful progress, continue to work towards the MSc. All applicants for admission to postgraduate taught programmes must have an acceptable qualification in English language before they can be admitted to any taught postgraduate programme. Applicants should include all possible information about their qualifications when applying. Transcripts are particularly important and so are referees' reports, particularly for international and industrially sponsored part time students. Other Fees |

Show More This MSc distance-learning course is designed to promote a deep understanding of the emerging mixed disciplinary area of blood science. You will examine different theoretical perspectives, methodological approaches, research interests and practical applications within the subject area, as an independent learner. Designed with input from current practitioners in the field, the course is suitable for biomedical science practitioners and graduates of biomedical or related life sciences. The programme covers areas relevant to staff working within or wishing to work in blood science departments within pathology. Delivered as a flexible distance-learning programme through our e-Portal WebLearn, you will be able to continue to work whilst studying. The self-guided eLearning materials have been specially designed to support your engagement with the course content. Each module has a module leader who is responsible for developing the curriculum and coordinating the production of the eLearning materials. Some sessions are ‘broadcast live’ with modules running face-to-face so you can engage with tutors, lecturers and other students. You can also contact your module leader and discuss ideas with other students via email, discussion boards, and during live peer-to-peer support sessions. Your final research project is to be conducted in your place of work with joint supervision provided by your laboratory training officer and a member of staff from the School of Human Sciences. For those not working in a suitable laboratory, research may be conducted at London Metropolitan University with additional bench fees for materials. The course is designed to support professionals in their career development in the healthcare profession, biomedical/biotechnology industry or in academia and has the potential to lead on to doctoral studies. We have applied for accreditation from the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) for 2014. This course has many benefits:
You can study at your own pace, with the support of our Biomedical Science team - no attendance required. Entry RequirementsThe normal standard of entry is a First or Second Class Honours first degree, or equivalent, in biomedical or life sciences subjects (that included appropriate biomedical content), although other less relevant subjects may be considered. Lower grades, or non-degree qualifications supplemented by substantial work experience may be considered at interview. Equivalent overseas qualifications will also be accepted; evidence of proficiency in English will also be required such as IELTS 7.0 (6.5 minimum in each component) or equivalent. Other Fees |

Show More The Masters by Research (MRes) is a full-time or part-time Masters Degree by research allowing graduates from disciplines related to Computing and I.T. to develop their subject specific and personal skills through a programme of guided and structured research studies. Delivered in the distance learning (DL) mode means that you will be able to access learning materials and interact with staff at the University remotely, using the latest technology and online resources. It is an intensive programme of research under the guidance of a research supervisor who is a specialist in the chosen area of research. The general area of your study must fit in with the overall ‘flavour’ of the award, but within that general area you will be able to specialise in a topic negotiated between you and your supervisor according to a ‘Learning Contract’. The part-time route is very suitable for existing technologists, lecturers and teachers in academic institutions and may produce outcomes that are valuable to a current or potential employer. The distance learning mode of study is also suitable for learners whose situation allows them time to do online research but makes it more difficult to visit the University. Entry RequirementsNormal requirements are at least a UK second class honours degree or equivalent in a related computing discipline If you do not meet the above but have significant appropriate experience, your application will be considered, provided that you satisfy the University that you are capable of responding to the challenge of postgraduate work. If your first language is not English, you will need to demonstrate that you are fluent enough to cope with the course. A minimum score of IELTS 6 or TOEFL 550 (213 computer-based) is normally required. Other Fees |
