Show More The mission of the Master of Health Informatics program is to prepare confident, innovative, and contributing professionals who can identify and use a variety of information systems resources and technologies to accomplish the informatics and information management objectives of diverse healthcare practice environments. The program is designed for individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Applicants who have not completed a bachelor’s degree in health information management may be required to register for additional courses. The type of additional course work will be determined after evaluation of transcripts and work experience. The Master's degree in Health Informatics does not lead to Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential. Entry Requirements• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution • Unconditional admission to the master's program in the department requires completion of a bachelor's degree in Health Information Mangament or related area, at least 3.0 (4.0 system) overall (or last 60 hours) grade point average. Conditional admission will be granted to applicants not meeting requirements for unconditional admission but who have a GPA of at least 2.50 overall or for the last 60 hours. Conditional status may be changed to unconditional status when a student earns a minimum of 9 hours of graduate credit at Louisiana Tech, provided he or she has a “B” average on all work pursued for graduate credit, including no grade lower than “C” and not more than one course with a grade of “C”. If a student completes 9 hours of graduate credit and is not eligible for unconditional status, the student will be dropped from graduate status. • At least two years of work experience in industries that can directly translate to health informatics, such as health care, IT, health information management, consulting, or law. For the students who do not have a healthcare background, need to submit an essay. The essay should answer the following questions in about 500 words. o What experiences led you to pursue a Master's degree in Health Informatics? o What leadership skills have you demonstrated in your field? o What are your career goals and how will a Master's in Health Informatics support these goals? o Why did you choose Louisiana Tech for your studies? o Describe the role of health informatics in assuring the quality of care and safety of healthcare services. • The students who choose not to submit an essay will need to submit a GRE score. Value accuracy and organization Entry RequirementsAn applicant must have a high school diploma or the equivalent. The University recognizes the following A GED A certificate demonstrating that the student has passed a state-authorized examination (for example, the California High School Proficiency Exam) that the state recognizes as the equivalent of a high school diploma. Note that certificates of attendance and/or completion are not included in this qualifying category. An academic transcript of a student who has successfully completed at least a two-year program that is acceptable for full credit toward a bachelor’s degree (i.e., an associate’s degree).
International Admissions Requirements An I-20 document is required, and will be issued once you meet the University’s general undergraduate admissions requirements and provide the following information: A certified copy of your high school and college transcripts evaluated by a transcript evaluation service approved by the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES). All documents, diplomas, and transcripts not written in English must be accompanied by a certified English translation. ACT/SAT scores or transcripts from post-secondary coursework applicable for placement into the intended program. This document will replace entrance exams, which Herzing University does not administer beyond the U.S. and Canada. You may also be required to pay for a professional evaluation of your transcripts. A notarized statement of financial support or a certified government sponsor letter indicating that tuition will be paid in advance of each term (tuition for the first two semesters is due upon enrollment), and that all necessary living expenses will be provided.
