The major emphases of the nurse practitioner tracks are to develop graduates with:

1. A base for continued inquiry and contributions to the art and science of nursing and the knowledge and skills to exert a leadership role in the formulation of healthcare policy,

2. Expertise in the provision of health care, and

3. Leadership ability in today’s healthcare environment.

Students complete courses in theory of advanced nursing practice where they develop skills in making independent clinical judgments as well as participate in experiences involving peer review, client advocacy, the development of collaborative, interdisciplinary relationships and role negotiation. Clinical instruction is carried out by nurse practitioners and/or physicians who model collaborative practice behaviors. This model of instruction allows the student to see the complementary roles of the advanced practice nurse and the physician and demonstrates the unique contributions of nursing to the care of clients.

The A.G.N.P. program prepares nurses to provide a range of healthcare services that promote wellness, prevent illness and manage health and illness needs of adults across the lifespan. The scope of practice of either the primary care or acute care N.P. is not setting specific, but is based on patient care needs. The particular expertise of the primary care A.G.N.P. emphasizes disease prevention, health promotion and the management of patients with acute and chronic multi-system health problems. The patient population of the acute care A.G.N.P. includes care of patients with complex acute, critical and chronic illness, disability and/or injury. The number of credits and clinical hours are determined by requirements for board certification in adult-gerontology. Graduates of the A.G.N.P. M.S.N. track complete a minimum of 600 supervised clinical practice hours and are eligible to sit for national certification in Primary Care or Acute Care through either the American Nurses Credentialing Center or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program.

- Graduation from an N.L.N.A.C. or C.C.N.E.-accredited baccalaureate nursing program with a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

The terms ergonomics and human factors are used interchangeably to describe the theory and practice of learning about human characteristics and capabilities and then using that understanding to improve people's interaction with the things they use and with the environments in which they do so. Ergonomics involves applying scientific information concerning humans to the design of objects, systems and environments for human use. It aims to design objects, systems and tasks in such a way as to improve human safety, health, comfort and performance. This course has been designed by leading researchers in the field of ergonomics and will give you the skills and experience to apply ergonomics in real world settings. Students receive high levels of support from tutors throughout the course and distance learning means that students have the flexibility to study when and where it suits them.

The programme is designed to give graduates the human factors/ergonomics experience required in a wide range of manufacturing, service and process industries, enforcement agencies such as Local Authorities and the health service, as well as a grounding for a career in research.

On completion of the course you will have received the formal education needed to work as an erognomist and will be eligible to join The Insitute of Ergonomics and Human Factors as a graduate member.

After completing the MSc Applied Ergonomics by Distance Learning, you will find that there are opportunities to continue your research within the school through an extensive PhD programme.

Public Health research in nutrition includes measurement and evaluation of food sources; nutritional assessment; exercise and behaviour; sports nutrition; diet and disease with particular interest in cancer, cardiovascular disease, obesity, diabetes and osteoporosis.

Geography explores the relationships between people, places and environments.

As our worlds have become increasingly interconnected, fast-paced and more complex due to technological and social change; symptoms of this speed and complexity include disconnectivity, restrictions on mobility and competition for resources. This makes Geography more relevant than ever.

You will learn how to integrate various perspectives in social research and natural science to identify practical solutions to issues surrounding: population growth; food security; migration; natural hazards; climate change; global cities; sustainable development; health and wellbeing; power and place; and, the emerging creative economies.

Geography is offered as part of the Bachelor of Arts. You can enhance your studies with a secondary major or choose from a range of elective units to support your career goals.

When coupled with Economics you can complete this major as part of our Bachelor of Arts or our Bachelor of Commerce. Your choice will determine your core units.

You can also study this major as part of a Science and Arts double degree.

Approximately half of the students in the School of Business choose the four-year degree in Business Administration.

The business administration program at NSU allows the student to maximize flexibility in determining one's academic curriculum. One may choose from a variety of upper-level electives to accentuate studies in economics, finance, marketing, management, or any combination of these areas.

The business administration curriculum is also ideal to prepare students for the rigors of law school. Several law school courses, such as Business Entities, Employment Law, Constitutional Law, and Anti-trust, focus on the employment and managerial decisions of businesses.
