Students in the MPA with an emphasis in Health Care Management program will be challenged to identify and provide solutions for the unique issues facing public sector health care organizations today. Coursework in the Master of Public Administration program allows students to apply administrative skills in the areas of leadership, human capital development, policy and governance within a public sector health care environment. Students may also develop a comprehensive understanding of contemporary health care models from financial, economic, quality, access and disparity perspectives. It is from this broad perspective that students begin defining their role and perspective as administrators within the health care system. Students will also investigate their options and define their potential to serve as leaders of systematic improvement within their health care discipline, based on changes in these driving factors. In this program, students will explore the principles and models for the recognition, analysis and resolution of ethical dilemmas in health occupations. Legal responsibility, workplace safety and the health care facility's obligation to provide protection from injury for patients, their families and staff are topics that will be examined. In addition, practical financial-analysis skills that have immediate application within the health care industry may be gained.
