Academic Requirements

An undergraduate degree (e.g. bachelor) which is considered at least comparable to a UK second class honours degree, from an institution acceptable to the University, provided the degree is in a health-related discipline, statistics or another appropriate subject. Work experience in a health science / health care setting is desirable but not essential; or

An appropriate health related professional or technical qualification which is considered by the University as at least equivalent to a second class honours degree together with at least three years’ relevant work experience. All applications in this category are considered on an individual basis.

Applicants who do not satisfy either of the above requirements may still be admitted at the discretion of the University on the basis of their academic qualifications, work experience and references.

Clinical epidemiology draws on epidemiological methods to answer clinical questions relevant to the daily practice of health care and to improve patient care. It focuses on individuals or groups of patients in clinical settings.

This programme provides animal health specialists, epidemiologists and public health specialists with an understanding of the conceptual basis of veterinary epidemiology and public health. Students learn economic concepts in animal health and production and develop statistical skills for epidemiological investigations and disease modelling.

At a time when strategies and policies for improving individual and population health are firmly on the agenda of governments globally, this course has been specifically designed to meet these challenges and demand from stakeholders and prospective students.

The importance of innovative approaches to health and social care has never been more critical with the widening inequalities gap, the continuing global financial crisis and climate change. The new public health approach has different characteristics from the old public health model and now includes prevention and promotion whilst giving recognition of the social determinants of health. This course will allow you to develop the skills required to meet existing and emerging challenges locally, nationally and internationally.

You will explore the principles of health promotion and public health and address current issues in improving health and the prevention of disease including epidemiology. This programme is open to all healthcare professionals with an interest in health in the paediatric population, epidemiology including risk factors, and public health issues including nutrition and physical activity.

Professional clinical practice, evidence-based practice, research methods, musculoskeletal health in the infant, musculoskeletal health in the pre-school child, musculoskeletal health in the school-aged child and musculoskeletal health in the adolescent.

The MSc Advanced Professional Practice (APP) degree, validated by Bournemouth University, has been developed by the AECC to support professional development. The programme provides a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals to attain the generic skills and attitudes of continuing professional development, experiential learning and reflective practice, and to develop advanced clinical and practical skills in specialised areas of practice. The MSc APP is a part-time, ‘at a distance’, programme enabling healthcare professionals to combine professional learning in the workplace with a postgraduate academic qualification.

Entry Requirements

The Paediatric Musculoskeletal Health course is intended for healthcare professionals in professional practice, including clinicians, teachers and researchers. Applicants must have a recognised professional qualification in line with the admissions regulations. Credit for prior learning is possible on approval by the Pathway Leader. Students who have successfully completed the PgCert Professional Development (Chiropractic) will be exempted from part of the programme (as specified in the individual pathways). Admission is at the discretion of the Pathway Leader.
Applicants for whom English is not their first language, must offer evidence of qualifications in written and spoken English. Acceptable qualifications are IELTS (academic) 6.0 and TOEFL 80 (internet based) or 550 (paper based), or direct equivalents.
