Enrolment in Deakin’s Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (E330) is available for the first time to Year 12 applicants and via the http://www.deakin.edu.au/future-students/doorstep/index.php delivery mode. The course has been adapted to meet new national and international standards in early childhood education, and includes a primary teaching component, allowing students to teach children up to age 8 years. The course meets the requirements of the relevant accrediting authorities for working in early childhood and primary school settings. Major studies: Education (Teacher education), Literacy (Literacy and numeracy programs), Numeracy (Education studies), Professional experience practice (Authentic practicum placements), Teaching pedagogies (Early childhood and primary), Teacher education (Early childhood and primary), and Research. Entry RequirementsThe BECE is an undergraduate course for entry by applicants from secondary school or TAFE; applicants with a prior degree may apply for the Master of Teaching, which offers the option of a postgraduate qualification in Early Childhood Education.
Year 12 (VCE or equivalent) entry:
VET/TAFE Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care holders: Levels of English and Mathematics which are achieved in any previous courses are considered in the selection process. Applicants need to provide evidence of their prior study of Mathematics and English achievements and/ or work related experience that demonstrates their English and mathematics proficiency. The selection team carefully scrutinises the applications for evidence of English and Mathematics proficiency.
Non year 12 (or equivalent applicants)
Early Childhood teaching qualification upgrade (Available from 2014): Applicants are ranked according to their most recent qualification, relevant professional experience or professional development related to early childhood education.
