Show More Knowledge of the Classical World of ancient Greece and Rome is essential if we are to appreciate our own culture and civilisation. The Greeks and Romans had a profound and lasting influence on language and thought, particularly in philosophy, law, politics, art, and architecture. They also created and developed nearly every genre of literature. We are, in the deepest sense, their descendants. University study of the literature, history, art, and society of the ancient world involves the critical examination of important questions that arise from this heritage. We investigate the way the ancient world reacted to intellectual and physical challenges. Today, many issues first raised in the classical world remain unresolved. You can structure your major or minor to suit your interests. Study the classics using a Greek or Roman perspective, or combine both to gain a general overview of the classical world. The classical world can be studied from many perspectives: philosophy (some of the greatest philosophers came from this period), Greek or Roman history, mythology, war, religion, art and society, even love and sexuality. Arts (Religious and Values Education) MastersCharles Sturt University - AustraliaCSU's Religious and Values Education program is designed to provide teachers of religious and values education with a grounding in biblical, philosophical, ethical, and multi-faith disciplines within religious studies.... Show More CSU's Religious and Values Education program is designed to provide teachers of religious and values education with a grounding in biblical, philosophical, ethical, and multi-faith disciplines within religious studies. Why study this course? Religious and Values Education is a recent but growing area of activity in Australian schools. Once confined to independent schools operated by religious organisations, Religious and Values Education is increasingly recognised as an important area of public (government) schools that operate on a secular model. In such contexts the emphasis falls on values education rather than religious education, although many schools would allocate the time already mandated for religious education to this area of activity. CSU’s Master of Arts (Religious and Values Education) offers graduates with prior Education qualifications an opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in religious and values education. The course is designed to offer a mix of learning opportunities such as policy and context, curriculum content, reflective professional practice, and a project tailored to the student’s own context. The course offers a series of in-depth learning experiences, beginning with a study of recent national and international trends in religious and values education. A set of subjects then focus on recent developments in major curriculum areas within the broad field of religious and values education including teaching the Bible, teaching philosophy of religion, teaching religious ethics, and teaching world religions. Students complete a semester of reflective professional practice before proceeding to advanced studies in either philosophical and ethical enquiry, or in media, popular culture and the arts. The capstone subject for the course is an individual research project in religious and values education. Entry RequirementsApplicants must hold an undergraduate degree in Education or a related field. Other applicants may be admitted at the discretion of the Course Coordinator. Show More Religions are among the most influential forces shaping the human experience, both in the past and in the present. Without some insight into diverse religious traditions, it is not possible to understand today's world or to prepare adequately for tomorrow's. New Zealand society, politics, education, and the arts continue to be influenced by the Judeo-Christian tradition while increasingly being affected by other traditions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam. Globally, religion often functions as the principal source of individual and communal identity, answering questions about meaning and purpose, morality and freedom, responsibility and happiness. Religious Studies investigates religions critically but with empathy, seeking to appreciate the role of religion in society and the perspectives of religious believers. It differs from theology in that it is not grounded in any particular religious tradition but deals even-handedly with religions found throughout the world. Religious Studies complements other subjects such as history, philosophy, classics, politics, anthropology, and literature.
