Show More Through the Specialization in Bilingual Education, educators will learn how to: - examine research in the areas of literacy, first and second language acquisition, and transfer of content knowledge between first and second languages - employ a variety of assessment methods and tools to gain useful information about student development and progress - learn strategies to help students and their families become more integrated into the school and community This online program provides teachers the knowledge and skills to successfully demonstrate the English as a New Language Standards set forth by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS). The coursework of the Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in Bilingual Education program equips teachers to adapt, create, and employ engaging and varied teaching resources for use in a bilingual teaching environment. Educators will prepare to strengthen students' command of their native language while they build English proficiency and mastery of grade-level academic content. The program content is aligned to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards: English as a New Language. American College of Education’s Professional Education Program, M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in ESL/Bilingual, which is designed to provide graduate students with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with nonnative speakers of English and to become instructional leaders and advocates in their classrooms, schools, and/or districts, is granted Accreditation by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) for a period of seven years, from May 3, 2013 to May 3, 2020. This accreditation certifies that the forenamed professional education program has provided evidence that the program adheres to TEAC’s quality principles. Entry RequirementsApplicants to Master of Education programs at American College of Education - Complete the application form, submit the application fee and enrollment agreement. - Enrollment agreement - Provide Official sealed transcripts documenting successful completion of an undergraduate degree and all post-baccalaureate coursework or degree, if applicable, from a regionally accredited institution(s) with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 OR - Official sealed transcripts documenting successful completion of an undergraduate degree or post-baccalaureate degree or post-graduate credits attempted from a regionally accredited institution, including the American College of Education, with a cumulative GPA of 2.75. Applicants whose overall grade point average, or grade point average in the last 60 hours attempted is below 2.5 will not be admitted. Applicants for the M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction program must provide official documentation of a teaching license or school service personnel license (according to specific state requirements), or a school services certificate. If applicants to the Curriculum and Instruction program do not have a teaching certificate, they may document their teaching status by providing evidence of satisfactory teaching performance from the chief academic officer of the school at their current employment.

International Transcript Requirements All applicants must submit to the Admissions Office official, sealed college transcripts from each institution attended. Transcripts that are international and/or not in English must be evaluated through AACRAO or any evaluation agency credentialed through NACES. International applicants must request the course-by-course evaluation. The evaluation report must show that the non-U.S. education is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree to be considered for admission.
English Language Requirements All applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate competence in the English language as demonstrated in one of three ways: Submission of an official transcript showing a degree from a United States secondary school or regionally accredited college/university. Submission of a transcript from a secondary school or college/university whose country uses English as a primary means of instruction, including, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand. Submission of an official minimum score on the Paper-Based or Internet-Based TOEFL exam. The minimum TOEFL score required for the Paper-Based Test (PBT) is 550, and for the Internet-Based (IBT) Test is 80. Applicants to the Texas M.Ed. in Educational Leadership program must submit scores from the Internet-Based (IBT) TOEFL An overall score of 80, and a score of 26 on the speaking section is required.

A teaching license at any level preK-12 must have already been secured or secured in conjunction with the minor to be able to add this endorsement to that license.
