Show More The department of physical activity and health provides high-quality learning experiences in health, sport, recreation, teacher education, coaching, exercise science, and more. Our highly qualified instructors emphasize scientifically-based approaches to content in the courses being taught. Furthermore, community engagement and experiential learning are integrated directly into the curriculum. We support EOU’s broader mission, values, and core themes and educational principles with special emphasis on educating the “the whole person” and promoting physical activity, fitness, and wellness across campus, regionally, and beyond. Our primary degree offering is a bachelor’s degree in Physical Activity and Health with three concentration options. We provide select master’s level classes and two minors. Show More Physical activity has been described as the “best buy” in public health. The increasing realisation of the importance of promoting higher levels of physical activity, coupled with the government’s agenda to reduce the proportion of sedentary and obese children and adults, requires a co-coordinated public health approach. To help meet these needs, Staffordshire University led the way by developing the MSc Physical Activity and Public Health which was the first academic programme of its kind in the UK to be offered by online distance learning. The award covers the main area of public health, such as principles that underpin practice and epidemiology. It focuses on research method and analysis of both quantitative and qualitative inquiry (often used as evidence in health improvement), physical activity specific modules relating to disease prevention and critiquing interventions, and strategies around working with and engaging communities. Finally, there is an independent research project of your choice, with a specialist focus on physical activity. Entry RequirementsApplicants will normally: possess an honours degree of class (2:1) or above (awarded by a United Kingdom university) or equivalent; have a minimum of one year working professional experience in community or government setting, or similar. Most students are already working full-time in a related area. For those with a professional qualification, Accreditation of Prior Achievement (APA) will be considered. • a minimum score of 7.0 on IELTS (International English Language Testing System) as administered by the British Council in most countries OR • a minimum score of 600 in TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or 250 in the computer-based test.
