The EMS Paramedicine Program at Central Washington University prides itself in providing comprehensive education in paramedicine with an unparalleled depth and breadth of scope. It boasts a five-year pass-rate on the National Registry Exam for Paramedic of 96%, with nearly 90% passing on their first attempt. In addition, nearly 100% of our graduates get placement into their chosen profession.
Entry RequirementsMinimum requirements for candidacy for this program include: Must be at least 18 years-old or older at the beginning of the course. Evidence of a high school diploma or equivalency qualification with a 2.0 GPA or better (a GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred).
Admission to Central Washington University Letters of recommendation from a minimum of three medical professionals (preferably paramedics) involved directly or indirectly in the delivery of prehospital medical care. Successful completion of interview by Selection Committee of the EMS Paramedic Program at Central Washington University For degree-seeking students, it is strongly recommended that students applying to the EMS Paramedicine Major have already completed all General Education Requirements. Otherwise, students may begin the EMS Paramedicine major before General Education requirements met, but every student must satisfy the General Education requirements in order to graduate.
International Students To submit proof of English proficiency, international students (except those from Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and English-speaking provinces of Canada) must submit one of the following: a) IELTS score (6.0) or TOEFL score (525 for paper-based, 195 for computer-based, 71 for Internet-based) b) A 3.0 or B grade in each of the two college-level English composition classes from a U.S. college or university. c) Recommendation from CWU’s UESL program. The Public Safety department is made up of faculty who specialize in public safety, homeland security, fire science, corrections, sociology, public administration, psychology, law, and social science. Graduates from an online public safety administration bachelor’s degree program can find leadership positions in the fire protection, law enforcement, corrections and emergency medical services industries. You will experience processional practice throughout the course by undertaking project work and visiting health facilities, including community health centres and a variety of public and private hospitals. The employment roles available for health information management graduates are varied with workforce shortages in a number of areas, the skills and knowledge acquired as part of the major can be applied anywhere in Australia and international, both in and outside the health sector. Curtin is the only university to offer an undergraduate and graduate entry master degree in health information management in Western Australia and the only health information management degree available by distance education in Australia. We also offer a Master of Health Information Management degree. Paramedicine major Paramedics are on the front line of medical care. They respond to emergency calls from the public and provide pre-hospital treatment, often in high-pressure environments and circumstances. It is a challenging career where life-changing decisions are made on a regular basis. This major addresses the changing healthcare environment, with an interprofessional health education focus and specialised fieldwork experience. Clinical laboratories will be delivered in collaboration with the St John Ambulance WA College of Pre-Hospital Care. To be eligible to complete the program you must maintain employment with St John Ambulance WA as a student ambulance officer. This course is the only program to offer a collaborative clinical engagement with St John Ambulance WA for new students from 2013, to help you to become industry-ready. Paramedicine is a growing field of healthcare focusing on the pre-hospital sector of healthcare delivery. Future developments include greater community-based care initiatives.
