Anderson University offers, in partnership with the Department of Adult Studies, an accelerated Bachelor of Science: Nursing (BSN) for registered nurses who have a diploma or associate degree in nursing. The RN-BSN Completion Program emphasizes analytic skills, a liberal arts perspective, and expertise for nursing practice. The BSN focuses on developing students for practice in the professional roles of practitioner, educator, scholar, member of the profession, and leader/manager. Students are prepared to design innovative nursing systems for individuals, families, and communities with complex health states in varied settings.

The RN-BSN Completion Program is designed as a hybrid program, providing both courses in a classroom setting as well as online. The nursing courses may be completed in 16 months. Supporting and liberal arts courses are taken following completion of the nursing curriculum and provide the base for effective nursing practice. Transfer credit is evaluated by the Department of Adult Studies and the dean of the School of Nursing or his/her designate.

Entry Requirements

Associate degree or diploma in nursing (from a nationally accredited nursing school).

Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Indiana or eligibility for licensure.

Minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.0 (if below 2.0, student may be admitted probationally).

Three letters of recommendation.

Admission essay.

Current CPR certification.

Negative Mantoux, current immunizations.

Criminal background report.

English proficiency is required when a student’s home language is non-English; TOEFL scores of 550 (paper-based), TOEFL scores of 213 (computer-based) or above, or Michigan test of English scores are accepted as such documentation of proficiency.

Our nursing program online is designed for the busy, practicing RN who embraces an online learning environment that allows for networking opportunities with a diverse group of peers in many geographical locations, as well as within many nursing specialties. Your nursing knowledge and work experience are valued, and you will find that the curriculum will serve to refine and enhance your critical-thinking and decision-making skills so as to better prepare you to face current and future health care challenges as a nurse leader.

Because we understand that your schedule as a working professional in nursing is demanding, and that your personal time is just as important, we have designed the Bachelor of Science in Nursing major required courses to be delivered in a 100% online format. Courses are 8 weeks in length and the student will participate in some experiential learning activities (application-based projects) within the coursework that may be enhanced in the workplace setting and/or in selected reflective observational experience(s). There will also be opportunities for the RN to collaborate online with other students in order to present case studies on relevant topics in nursing and problem-solve together to improve students’ critical-thinking skills, polish students’ communication techniques, and increase students’ overall confidence in team-building relationships. Students in our online RN-to-BSN program will also acquire a deeper understanding of the value of incorporating evidence-based research into “real world” practice and gain a greater appreciation for the commitment to lifelong learning in this dynamic profession.

• A completed Ottawa University application for admission (you can apply online or at any of our locations)
• Current, unrestricted RN licensure in the United States (must be maintained throughout the program). Licenses will be verified.
• Successful completion of a criminal background check. Applicant is responsible for this cost.

• Career Statement of professional experience and goals in nursing (no more than 2 pages). Please include current and previous work experience as an RN (due to the format of the program, current or recent RN work experience is strongly recommended).

• All previous college/university credits will be evaluated on an individual basis for transfer to Ottawa University.
• It is the student’s responsibility to have official transcripts from every college/university previously attended forwarded to Ottawa University.
• Evidence of current immunizations (with a health status form) and current copy of CPR (professional/healthcare) card must be received and on file prior to selected practice experiences. These deadline submission dates will be communicated to the students.
• Any student with ADN/diploma nursing credits that are more than ten years old must have their credential validated. This is accomplished by: Successful completion of NRSG 30000 Professional Nursing Theory, Roles, and Practice with a “C” or above and one other required nursing major course with a “C” or above (with a prefix of NRSG).
o Prior ADN/diploma nursing courses will be held in escrow until the successful completion of NRSG 30000 and one other required nursing major course in the program (with a prefix of NRSG) as noted above. Upon successful completion of these two courses, the prior ADN/diploma nursing course credits will be transcribed as transfer credit applicable toward the Ottawa University BSN degree.

The RN to BSN online degree program at King University is comprised of 32 credit hours of core nursing courses and may be completed in as little as 16 months. With a total of 124 credit hours, the online degree is designed as a transformational learning experience leading to personal and professional skill development to meet the needs of registered nurses previously prepared at the ADN or diploma level.
Additionally, the RN to BSN online degree is delivered ENTIRELY ONLINE. However, clinical aspects of the NURS 4010 & 4210 courses involve participation in a community service assignment and implementing a change project in the work environment respectively. Our online courses are the exact same courses as those delivered on campus.

Students applying for RN-BSN Online program must meet the following requirements:
• An associate degree or diploma in nursing.
• A current unencumbered license as a registered nurse from the Tennessee Board of Nursing or a compact multi-state license.
• Applicants should not be on probation and must report any past or current disciplinary action taken by a state board.
• A current CPR certification.
• Cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale in previous nursing courses at the community college level. Diploma program-level courses (e.g. anatomy and physiology) must have been completed at the community college level.

Notes

Transfer credit with a “C” grade or better is automatically recognized for students who graduated from approved nursing programs. There is no time limit on an earned degree; however, there is a seven-year limit for previously earned college credit.

The Online RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at American Public University System is designed to facilitate the immediate and lifelong professional development needs of Registered Nurses who earned an associate degree in nursing and have a current, active license as a Registered Nurse. Accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), the curriculum reflects current nursing practice and the Institute of Medicine recommendations for nursing education.

The program focuses on the development of the professional nursing role in three primary areas: Practitioner, Scientist and Leader. Students work with faculty to implement and evaluate a professional development plan to improve critical thinking, clinical reasoning, oral and written communication comprehension of published research, and knowledgeable, skillful participation in organizational, community, and global health issues. Entry Requirements

Applicants must successfully complete ASU competency requirements. Admission may be granted with one deficiency in no more than two competency areas. Deficiencies cannot be in both math and laboratory science. Students must earn a minimum 2.0 in any subject area. Most competencies may also be met by test scores or college courses.

English - 4 years (composition/literature based)
Math - 4 years - Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and one course requiring Algebra II as a prerequisite.
Laboratory Science - 3 years total (1 year each from any of the following areas are accepted: Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Integrated Sciences, and Physics)
Social Science - 2 years (including one year American History)
Foreign Language - 2 years (same language)
Fine Arts - 1 year

Through this process Undergraduate Admissions will review all available information about a student’s application, carefully considering all aspects of a student’s academic background and accomplishments. Submission of an ACT or SAT test score is highly recommended. In some cases, additional information might be requested.
