- Graduation from a N.L.N.A.C. or C.C.N.E.-accredited baccalaureate nursing program with a cumulative 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale

- Completion of a basic statistics course and an undergraduate nursing research course.

- Satisfactory Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score if native language is not English.

This course is designed to enable registered nurses to increase their clinical competence and develop skills in leadership and research.

The course is embedded in a strong evidence base and offers students professional and clinical skill development along with the necessary investigative and life-long learning skills. Within the program students can choose to study sequences in selected clinical nursing specialties, clinical education and/or clinical management.

The course will integrate the research, ethical, political and reflective skills necessary to enable clinical and professional leadership through an informed position on health-care issues with a specific emphasis on cross-cultural practice. Graduates will have the capacity to undertake leadership roles in a variety of health and educational settings.

All applicants must indicate their preferred clinical specialty from the list of clinical specialty options available. Note that applicants with a completed Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate in Nursing should select the Credit Transfer option. Some specialisations or streams will have specialty units offered through cross-institutional enrolment.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must hold current registration as a registered nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and a Bachelor degree or equivalent in the same discipline. All applicants (except those applying for the credit transfer stream) must have minimum 0.6 FTE employment in the clinical specialty for which they are applying.

All applicants must ensure they correctly answer the question relating to nursing current practising certificate when applying on GradStart. SATAC will attempt to confirm their registration on the online register with AHPRA but if SATAC is unable to do so, applicants will be asked to submit a certified copy of their certificate.

In addition to meeting basic requirements for admission to the Graduate School, applicants for graduate study in nursing must have:

- Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an NLNAC or CCNE accredited program with an upper division major in nursing with a “B” average (3.0 or higher on a 4.0 point grading system).

- Current licensure as an RN or eligibility for licensure.

- Professional nursing liability insurance.

- Completed approved statistical methods course with a grade of ‘C’ or higher within the past 5 years.
