Bachelor of Health and Rehabilitation Science graduates will develop a holistic approach to health and rehabilitation, inclusive of physiological, anatomical, psychological and socio-cultural factors. Become a skilled, flexible and accountable healthcare worker capable of meeting the challenges and future needs of the Australian healthcare system.

This three-year degree will enable students to develop comprehensive knowledge and skills that support generic practice in a range of health settings. Students will develop:

An understanding of the principles of rehabilitation

Extensive knowledge of anatomy and how the body functions

Knowledge about human development

An understanding of psychology and sociology

Extensive knowledge of disease and the medications used to treat disease

Skills in how to run a health education/community development program

Knowledge of exercise science, including musculoskeletal and cardiovascular functioning

Skills and knowledge in communication and group work

A sound foundation for entry into professional health degrees.

Students may choose to exit the course with the University Certificate in Health and Rehabilitation Science upon satisfactory completion of the first seven subjects (64 subject points). Study to this level will provide students with an introduction to generic health concepts and skills.
Students may choose to exit the course with the Associate Degree in Health and Rehabilitation Science upon satisfactory completion of the first 14 subjects (128 subject points). Study to this level will provide students with generic health knowledge and skills that enable graduates to engage in supervised practice in a range of settings.

The MSc Advanced Professional Practice (APP) degree, validated by Bournemouth
University, has been developed by the AECC to support professional development. The
programme provides a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals to attain the generic
skills and attitudes of continuing professional development, experiential learning and
reflective practice, and to develop advanced clinical and practical skills in specialised areas
of practice. The MSc APP is a part-time, ‘at a distance’, programme enabling healthcare
professionals to combine professional learning in the workplace with a postgraduate
academic qualification. To reflect the areas of specialised practice, five pathways are
available:

Entry Requirements

The Orthopaedics course is intended for practitioners in professional practice including those with an undergraduate qualification in medicine, chiropractic, physiotherapy, osteopathy, exercise science, sport science or other related degrees. Other undergraduate degrees will be considered depending on the level of human biological sciences completed in the degree programme. Applicants must have a recognised first qualification in line with the admissions regulations. Credit for prior learning is possible on approval by the Pathway Leader. Admission is at the discretion of the Pathway Leader.

Applicants for whom English is not their first language, must offer evidence of qualifications in written and spoken English. Acceptable qualifications are IELTS (academic) 6.0 and TOEFL 80 (internet based) or 550 (paper based), or direct equivalents.

CSU’s Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology (Rehabilitation) is Australia’s only distance education course in Exercise Physiology that is accredited by Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA).

Why study this course?

Chronic illness is the single greatest challenge facing health care in Australia. Recent data from Australian Institute of Health and Welfare indicates that chronic illness currently contributes to 70% of the health burden in Australia and this is expected to rise to 80% by 2020.

Accredited exercise physiologists play a critical role enhancing the health of the nation by specialising in the delivery of preventative exercise programs and/or exercise interventions for the management of chronic and complex conditions and/or injuries.

CSU’s Master of Clinical Exercise Physiology (Rehabilitation) develops the knowledge, skills and core competencies you require to work as an accredited exercise physiologist in a variety of settings. The course prepares students to conduct client consultations to determine medical and physical activity histories, perform pre-exercise screenings, use motivational interviewing to determine readiness for exercise and perform health and fitness assessments. Students will also be prepared to design and deliver evidence-based exercise prescriptions, apply psychological strategies to promote lifestyle modification and behaviour change, and provide client education to prevent or manage targeted cardiopulmonary, metabolic, musculoskeletal, and neurological conditions as well as cancer and depression.

The course also includes up to 500 hours of supervised clinical placement, which provides students with the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in exercise physiology in real clinical settings whilst being supported by experienced health professionals.

evidence of approved graduate entry membership with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA)

or

evidence of pending graduate entry membership with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) due to an inadequate number of apparently healthy practicum hours only (i.e. all Exercise Science knowledge and skills criteria are met).
