The primary focus of the program is to prepare the graduate to promote, maintain, supervise, and restore health, identify health risks, and assess, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic illnesses common in primary care. The ability to function as an educator, leader, consultant, advocate, and change agent is an essential to the development of clinical expertise in this role.
- Integrate clinical prevention and population health concepts in the provision of evidence-based, culturally relevant healthcare. - Incorporate knowledge from nursing and related sciences into the delivery of advanced nursing care across diverse populations - Translate relevant research to improve practice and associated health outcomes for diverse populations. - Demonstrate leadership skills in the provision of high quality health care and within the context of an interprofessional team. - Integrate current and emerging technologies into the delivery of safe, quality care. - Interpret the effect of legal and regulatory processes on nursing practice, healthcare delivery, and outcomes. - Apply ethical analysis and social responsibility to delivery of advanced nursing care across diverse populations. - Demonstrate cultural competence to improve patient and population outcomes. - Demonstrate behaviors of professional engagement and life-long learning in the provision of quality health care. Entry Requirements- Baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing (non-nursing bachelor degrees, see Clinical Practice Portfolio below)* - Minimum of one year's recent relevant experience (preferred) - Unofficial transcripts from all college/universities attended - Cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0. - Current professional Registered Nurse license - Three credit undergraduate course in Health Assessment (by advisement) - Three credit undergraduate course in Statistics (by advisement) Clinical Practice Portfolio - Applicants to a master's program with a non-nursing bachelor's degree are required to submit a clinical practice portfolio to be evaluated for baccalaureate-level nursing competencies once they have been admitted to a program.
