Entry Requirements

All applicants must either be a high school graduate with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.3, or a general equivalency diploma (GED) recipient with a score of 530 (score of 53 prior to 2002). If an applicant’s GPA or GED score is below the minimum, he/she may be eligible for admission under transfer student guidelines.

Applicants for the BS-ITAM program must have a transferable associate degree from an accredited two-year school, or have earned a bachelor degree in any field, and be admitted to CWU through the university application process.

Central Washington University has authorization and/or exemption to deliver fully online degree programs to students in the following states: Washington, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

If you reside in a state not listed above, we may not be able to accept you for admission into a fully online degree program offered at CWU. Acceptance will depend on CWU gaining authorization to offer the online program in your state.

Health Care Management students can begin their career by earning a certificate in coding. Along with an American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) credential, the medical coding certificate prepares you for jobs in all types of medical facilities, inpatient and outpatient, and other industry-related positions such as insurance companies and government agencies.

Health information technology (HIT) professionals with an associate degree pursue registration through the AHIMA as Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT). RHITs are responsible for the quality of patient health information in acute care hospitals, physician offices and other outpatient facilities.

Students in this program study diagnosis and procedure coding, health information management, healthcare reimbursement, legal aspects of health information, and health information technology.

The Health Care Management program includes courses in anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology with pharmacology, medical terminology, ICD-9-CM and ICD-9-CM coding, ICD-10-PCS coding, CPT and HCPCS coding, as well as reimbursement methodologies. Legal aspects of health care management are covered, as well as information technology and health information management.

The Sullivan University Health Care Management program promotes student success by focusing on engagement between faculty and students, teaching with primary resources, and encouraging students to use critical thinking to solve problems.
