Show More The Bachelor of Arts in film and media studies provides students with the skills to succeed in the entertainment industry, including film, television and new media, as well as local arts organizations. Based on a broad liberal arts education focused on the humanities, this degree provides graduates with the ability to think analytically and speak and write clearly and persuasively - skills in demand across almost all sectors of the global economy. Our program develops these skills through a variety of discussion-based and writing intensive courses. Graduates with degrees in film and media studies have secured jobs in the entertainment industry as creative executives, producers, managers and writers. They work in media arts, story and production development, exhibition, distribution and film, television and video game production. Some students complete graduate studies and secure jobs in journalism as film and media critics. For a better sense of academic and employment options for graduates of our program, we invite students to talk with our faculty. We offer a broad range of courses that reflect trends and rapid transformations in the film and media industries, and prepare our students for increasingly sophisticated forms of artistic expression and storytelling. It provides students with opportunities to engage with both the resilient nature of Australian Indigenous cultures as well as contemporary forms of Indigenous cultural expression, including song, dance, story, art, film and theatre. A range of interdisciplinary conceptual tools is utilised, including critical race theory and emerging Indigenous critical theory, to further the project of decolonising knowledges on and about Indigenous peoples. In so doing, the major also encourages students to examine the issues of personal and national identity, and the relationship between these, themselves and Aboriginality. As a journalism major at The Woods, you will learn how to become a journalist through developing a strong command of the basics of reporting, writing, designing, and editing publications through print, web, and interactive media; as well as studying photography, film, and public relations. A degree in Journalism & Media Studies prepares students to work in a variety of journalism jobs and media fields, including newspapers, magazines, book publishing, and digital media communication. As a journalism major, you will work closely with faculty to develop the necessary skills for visual and written communication.
