Online Education Curriculum Studies Degree :: Accredited Universities

The MEd in Curriculum Studies aims to develop leaders in the fields of pedagogy and curriculum. Students develop the knowledge and skills to understand the theoretical bases of curriculum, to critically examine current issues in education, and to engage effectively in areas such as curriculum development, pedagogical innovation, and program evaluation.
Students will have opportunities to do advanced studies and research in one or more subject areas related to school curriculum, or to focus on unique contexts such as Aboriginal communities or French immersion settings.

Entry Requirements

All applicants to any program must submit a letter and resume with their application. The letter should outline professional development goals and the specific ways in which graduate study can help them fulfill these goals.
All applicants must provide three references. At least one of the references must be an academic reference from someone who taught them as an instructor, teacher or professor, and who will write about their academic performance. (If their most recent degree was completed more than ten years ago, none of your referees need to be an academic reference. However, an acadmic reference would be preferred, especially if a course was recently taken.)
All applicants whose first language is not English must submit evidence of their proficiency in the use of the English language. Such applicants should submit the results they obtain by completing the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL or its equivalent) including the Test of Written English (TWE or its equivalent). The minimum proficiency levels accepted by the Faculty of Education are scores of 650 on the TOEFL (280 computer-based) and 5.5 on the TWE.
All applications are assessed on a competitive basis. Satisfaction of the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.
Applicants to the MEd Curriculum Studies are required to hold a Bachelor of Education degree or its equivalent, with a grade point average of at least 3.0 (B, or its equivalent); and are expected to have at least one year of teaching or related professional experience. Applicants are expected to possess a background in the specialized area(s) of study to which they are applying; if not, makeup courses will be required.

Applied Organizational Studies is a degree completion program designed primarily for working adults that will provide them the qualifications needed to advance in their careers or to change professions. It provides students with education in communication, in critical analysis, and in organizational leadership. These are skills that have been repeatedly identified as highly important in comtemporary society and a shifting economy. This degree is designed for individuals who want to develop knowledge and skills that will allow them to serve and contribute to transforming the organizations of which they are a part, be it their community, church, work, nonprofit or voluntary organization, city, state. The program's design assumes that students have completed Minnesota's general education Transfer Curriculum and at least 60 credits of coursework.

Entry Requirements

Applicants who are graduates of accredited high schools (or who hold a GED certificate) with no prior college work will be considered for admission to Minnesota State University.

International Applicants

International applicants must provide English Language proficiency test result in one of the following ways

- TOEFL paper-based test score of 500 or better; OR

- TOEFL computer-based test score of 173 or better; OR

- TOEFL internet-based test score of 61 or better; OR
completion of Level 112 at an English Language School (ELS) in the U.S.; OR

- a score of 5.5 or better on the academic IELTS; OR

- a SAT Critical Reading sub-score of 400 or higher; OR

- students transferring from a U.S. college or university may satisfy the English proficiency requirement by the completion of one semester of Freshman English Composition I with a C or better grade. If the student is transferring from a school that is on the quarter system they would have to complete Freshman Composition I & II with a C or better grade; OR

- successful completion of the Intensive English Language Institute program at Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The program is designed to accommodate the different educational backgrounds of students from a variety of professions and industries. The Bachelor of Arts in Applied Studies is ideal for those who want to build upon their technical and occupational skills by customizing their degrees to directly align with their career paths. Its cross-disciplinary curriculum explores multicultural perspectives, sociological change, technological advances and leadership theories to prepare them to compete in today’s workforce.

Students will construct meaningful plans for selecting courses with the help of their academic advisors. At the end of their studies they will complete a capstone course that synthesizes learning outcomes through the development of a personal portfolio. Entry Requirements

Students must have completed 12 or more transferable baccalaureate level credits or the equivalent for admission to Brandman University.

Prospective students must submit the following:

1. Completed application package. Applications are available online.

2. Official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended. Only credits from regionally accredited institutions may be accepted in transfer. Failure to report any previous academic work at another college or university may be considered a violation of academic integrity.

3. For those applying under an active military agreement with Brandman University, admissibility and minimum transfer credit awarded will be determined based on the Community College of the Air Force, SMART, AARTS or JST transcripts. If additional coursework from other institutions is submitted prior to admission this coursework will also be included in determining admissibility and transferability for course credit.

Entry Requirements

For admission to the Graduate School, an applicant must hold either (1) a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or (2) a tertiary (postsecondary) degree that is deemed comparable to a four-year bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution. This degree must be from an officially recognized degree-granting institution in the country in which it operates.

International applicants

All international applicants must take and submit scores for the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), with the exceptions noted below. The minimum acceptable score for the TOEFL is 550 for the paper-based test, or a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the internet-based test (iBT). Applicants with iBT speaking scores between 15 and 18 may be considered for provisional admission, which requires completion of specified remedial English courses ESL 114G (American Oral English for Academic Purposes) and/or ESL 116G (ESL/Composition for Academic Disciplines) and attainment of a grade of B or higher. The minimum acceptable composite score for the IELTS is 6.5. Graduate programs may have more stringent requirements.

CSU's Religious and Values Education program is designed to provide teachers of religious and values education with a grounding in biblical, philosophical, ethical, and multi-faith disciplines within religious studies.

Why study this course?

Religious and Values Education is a recent but growing area of activity in Australian schools. Once confined to independent schools operated by religious organisations, Religious and Values Education is increasingly recognised as an important area of public (government) schools that operate on a secular model. In such contexts the emphasis falls on values education rather than religious education, although many schools would allocate the time already mandated for religious education to this area of activity.

CSU’s Master of Arts (Religious and Values Education) offers graduates with prior Education qualifications an opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in religious and values education. The course is designed to offer a mix of learning opportunities such as policy and context, curriculum content, reflective professional practice, and a project tailored to the student’s own context.

The course offers a series of in-depth learning experiences, beginning with a study of recent national and international trends in religious and values education. A set of subjects then focus on recent developments in major curriculum areas within the broad field of religious and values education including teaching the Bible, teaching philosophy of religion, teaching religious ethics, and teaching world religions. Students complete a semester of reflective professional practice before proceeding to advanced studies in either philosophical and ethical enquiry, or in media, popular culture and the arts. The capstone subject for the course is an individual research project in religious and values education.

Applicants must hold an undergraduate degree in Education or a related field. Other applicants may be admitted at the discretion of the Course Coordinator.
