You will explore the relationship between research and practice, encouraging you to analyse issues of interest to you. If you have an interest in research, but have not completed a major research project and would like to eventually progress to doctoral studies in education - this course is suited to you. You will complete two coursework units, including a compulsory core research methods unit, and a thesis of up to 20-25,000 words. We provide a wide range of specialisations to suit your career aspirations. There are many research areas offered in this program including; early childhood, primary and secondary education, gifted and special education, information and communication technology in education, international education, leadership and policy development, literacy studies, mathematics and science education, music education, school and organisational leadership, work and learning studies, educational and developmental psychology, counselling, mentoring and coaching, professional development studies, teaching English as a foreign or second language and sport and outdoor recreation. Entry RequirementsFour years of full-time equivalent University study at Monash University or any other recognised tertiary institution in education or a relevant field (either through a double degree or undergraduate degree plus Graduate Diploma or an honours year) with an upper H2B (a mark of 65 or above). The thesis should give evidence that the candidate has the ability to carry out research, has shown originality and independence, and has made a significant contribution to knowledge in their particular profession. A research to practice portfolio consisting of evidence documenting the connection between the candidate’s research and practice and how the research has informed and enhanced practice should be submitted as part of the thesis. It is expected that some of the work in the thesis would be worthy of publication. The programme should be of a kind which a diligent and competent student might reasonably be expected to complete within six years of part-time study. Entry RequirementsAdmission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Humanities). Every applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in education or related fields, with First Class Honours or Second Class Honours (Division I) or equivalent; or a Bachelor’s degree with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (with distinction or credit) or a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching (with distinction or credit), including an appropriate research component; or a Master’s degree in education or a related field (with distinction or credit). Every applicant must have at least five years of experience as a professional in education or related fields and be a leader in their field. The applicant should present evidence of ability for advanced level academic study. Exceptionally qualified professionals, who meet the equivalent of the admission requirements under 1(b) above, may be admitted to the programme on the recommendation of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Humanities). Initial admission to the degree programme shall normally be provisional; it shall be confirmed after attaining at least a B+ grade for the coursework (EDDX 901), and after the research proposal has been satisfactorily presented at the Confirmation Seminar.
