The field of education is filled with interesting possibilities. Education provides critical analysis of contemporary educational theories, policies, and practices. Theoretical understanding and research skills enhance the way we analyse and bring information together. Unlike the Bachelor of Education, which is a professional degree, the BA in Education deals with the academic study of Education. It evaluates the content and processes, institutions, contexts, and the setting through which people learn to be members of their societies and cultures. The Education major provides a wide variety of papers covering the main disciplinary approaches to the study of educational policies and practices. Two papers, An Introduction to Social and Cultural Studies in Education and Human Development I, are compulsory for a major in Education. These two papers form the basis for advanced study in education in the areas of educational history, philosophy, psychology, advanced studies in human development, and education research methods. Entry RequirementsTo enrol in the Bachelor of Arts programme you must qualify for undergraduate admission, either through Bursaries and Scholarship Examinations, NCEA Level 3, New Zealand University Entrance, Admission with Equivalent Status, Discretionary Entrance or Adult Admission.
