Show More This major explores a range of contemporary issues affecting Australian Indigenous peoples' life experiences and aspirations. It provides students with opportunities to engage with both the resilient nature of Australian Indigenous cultures as well as contemporary forms of Indigenous cultural expression, including song, dance, story, art, film and theatre. A range of interdisciplinary conceptual tools is utilised, including critical race theory and emerging Indigenous critical theory, to further the project of decolonising knowledges on and about Indigenous peoples. In so doing, the major also encourages students to examine the issues of personal and national identity, and the relationship between these, themselves and Aboriginality. Show More After completion of the three-year degree program, students may undertake a fourth year of full-time study (or two years part-time) in Art History, English, History, Philosophy, Psychology or Sociology and graduate with Honours. Like the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) is available in both on campus and by distance education. A mid-year intake is also available. The Honours program is available to applicants who have been awarded or who are eligible to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts from CSU and, in certain circumstances, to applicants who have a comparable degree from CSU or another institution. Applicants will normally be required to have a major in their proposed Honours disciplinary area and to have attained grades of credit or better in the second and third level subjects of the major (or have what is deemed to be the equivalent from another institution). Students qualified to enter the Honours program should consider its advantages, particularly the development of higher level analytical skills and enhanced expertise in research and communication. Completion of an Honours degree is also a prerequisite for admission to a postgraduate research degree. Accredited by the Public Relations Institute of Australia, the program provides a world-class learning experience for communication professionals to develop their communication management and strategic skills. All subjects are offered by distance education, and include at least one assignment that students can focus on their own work or organisation, helping them to become more confident and productive employees from the outset. Students learn about contemporary practice and theory, and apply their learning through case studies, problem-solving and strategy development. In year one students learn about individual and leader communication styles, public relations and communication theory, employee communication and change management, strategy planning, research and communication audits.
