Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the BSc degree you must:

normally* be aged 17 or above by the 30 November in the year of registration and satisfy the University’s General Entrance Requirements and
demonstrate competence in Mathematics at least equivalent to UK GCSE/GCE 'O' level at Grade C or above (equivalents can be found within the above link).
*Applications will be considered from applicants who do not meet the normal minimum age requirement for admission. Each application will be considered on an individual basis, and the decision taken at the discretion of the University of London.

If you are not automatically eligible then you will be individually considered by the University of London’s Special Admissions Panel. The Special Admissions Panel will consider qualifications which are not published under the Qualifications for Entrance Schedule, incomplete qualifications (e.g. diplomas / degrees) and substantial relevant work experience. If we cannot accept you with your current qualifications and experience, we will advise you what qualifications you could take in order to become eligible in the future.

English language requirement

The language of instruction, reading and assessment is English. To succeed on our programmes you need a good level of competence in English. If you doubt your ability in written or spoken English we advise you take a course and test in English language before enrolling on the programme.

Required standard of English

You will usually meet the English language requirement for undergraduate programmes if you:

hold a UK GCSE / GCE O level in English at grade C or above
have five years secondary schooling taught solely in English or have passed GCE A levels or IB in essay-based subjects
have passed an International Foundation programme that permits entry onto a recognised UK bachelor degree
hold a full Postgraduate award, or a full first degree or Associate degree taught and examined in English from an institute that is acceptable to the University
have passed, within the past three years, an Associate degree, Diploma or Higher Diploma awarded by an acceptable institute / polytechnic / university in Hong Kong, Malaysia or Singapore, or
have passed, within the past three years, a test of proficiency in English language from an organisation acceptable to the University.
Where an applicant does not meet the required English language level but believes they can demonstrate the required level for admission the University may, at its discretion, consider the application.

Please note if an applicant satisfies one of the above conditions yet provides evidence of a test of proficiency in English language, awarded within the past three years, which is below the University’s minimum requirements then they will be required to retake such a test before being offered admission.

English language Requirements

For all applicants a high level of English language ability in reading, writing and study skills is required, equivalent to a score of 7.0 in the IELTS test, or 7 in both reading and writing; or a score of 600+ in the TOEFL paper-based test of English, with at least 5.0 in the test of written English; and in the TOEFL internet-based test, you will need a score of 100+, with 25+ in the written English test. Applicants may be asked to provide evidence of language ability as tested by the British Council or another registered body.

Computing requirements
--------------------------------

Access to use of a computer is considered a requirement of studying with CeDEP*. The degree of access necessary can vary with the type of qualification being taken and the study modules involved. However, computer access for email communication with the CeDEP team, tutors and supervisors is essential.

Those studying for an MSc must be able to spend sufficient study time using a computer if they are to effectively complete the research methods module. This module is compulsory and requires the use of computer-based statistical software.

You should have access to a PC with the following capabilities:

CD/DVD drive.
Access to email.

The Online Master of Science in Applied Economics (MSAE) program objective is to provide graduates with analytical capabilities in economic development, financial economics, and regulatory issues. The skills and competencies addressed by this program include market analysis, quantitative analysis, regulatory industry analysis, financial economics and economic development. These capabilities represent a unique combination of skills that are needed within society.

The program provides the quantitative and analytical skills for graduates to assist businesses in market analysis including: quantitative, regulatory, and economic development. Graduates will be able to compete for employment in financial institutions, industry, and government enterprises engaged in financial economic development, public utilities and federal and state regulatory agencies.

Entry Requirements

Admission into the Master of Science in Applied Economics program is competitive. To be considered for regular admission students must satisfy the following requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Undergraduate GPA: minimum of 3.00 on a 4.00 point scale

- Competitive GRE scores

- Completed courses in calculus, statistics, intermediate macroeconomics, and intermediate microeconomics with a minimum grade of “C” in each course and a minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale in these courses

- Completed ECON 7110 – Math for Applied Economics with a minimum grade of “C”

Students who apply by the deadlines below and meet the first four requirements will be conditionally admitted and given the opportunity to take Math for Applied Economics before beginning the program. The Math for Applied Economics requirement will be waived upon demonstration of current proficiency in algebra and calculus. Contact the Program Director for details.

The GRE requirement may be waived at the discretion of the Program Director for applicants holding a graduate degree in a quantitative field.

The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) program is exclusively designed for learners with at least two years of transferable credit from institutions other than UNCP, who hold either Associate in Applied Arts or Associate in Applied Science degrees. The program serves adult students, in particular, who seek a broad, more flexible degree program to help them to advance or become more established in their careers or to improve their understanding of the world around them. The BIS is intended for a set of diverse students who bring to the university many academic, personal, and work-related experiences. They may choose the BIS program because (1) they are aware that they are more employable in many occupations with the degree, (2) that learning in the arts and sciences and in a field of specialization leads to understanding and empowerment, and (3) they review their personal plans and recognize that they can effectively meet their most important goals for a bachelor's degree through the BIS. The Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Applied Professional Studies prepares graduates with core competencies necessary for successful careers in for-profit business. Combined with solid training in communication and writing skills, these competencies include basic understandings of economics, finance, statistics, decision sciences, management and marketing. Beyond these core competencies, students receive training in one of seven areas of specialization: Advertising, Allied Health Leadership, Economic Development, Financial Administration, Health Promotion, or Office Administration. Similar to other majors within the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Degree program, the BIS in Applied Professional Studies is intended for those interested in obtaining a highly relevant and practical degree that provides advancement opportunities in their current employment, and for those who are starting or interested in changing their professional careers. The program of study for the BIS in Applied Professional Studies consists of five components: General Education Requirements (44 hours); Core Requirements (21 hours), Track Requirements (15 hours), 30 hours upon verification of the student holding an Applied Associate Degree, and Electives (10 hours).
